It can be worth it if the Fold7 would replace enough tablet use that you value carrying one device more than keeping two. It is a weaker value if your phone and tablet already serve separate needs well, you rely on a tablet stylus, or you would keep the tablet anyway. The decision comes down to your actual upgrade cost and how often you use a larger screen—not a universal break-even point.

What you would gain—and what you would give up

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is a smartphone that opens to a larger screen: Samsung lists a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch inner display. Samsung positions the inner display for multitasking and editing, so it could handle some reading, browsing, video, document review, and app use you currently do on a tablet. That does not mean it will replace every tablet workflow.

When folded, the Fold7 weighs 215 g and is 8.9 mm thick, according to Samsung’s July 9, 2025 launch announcement. Compare those figures with your own phone and tablet: consolidation can reduce what you carry, but the Fold remains a substantial phone, not a weightless substitute.

Factor Fold7 Why it matters if you own both a phone and tablet
Display 6.5-inch cover; 8-inch inner display The inner screen may cover frequent tablet tasks, but whether it is large enough depends on the apps and work you do.
Pen input No S Pen support, according to Samsung’s product information A material drawback for handwriting, sketching, or other tablet work built around a pen.
Portability 215 g; 8.9 mm thick folded Judge the combined carrying experience against your actual phone-and-tablet setup.
Battery 4,400 mAh typical capacity; up to 24 hours of video playback, according to Samsung These are manufacturer specifications, not a direct battery comparison with two devices. Real use varies.
Desktop-style features Samsung lists DeX support DeX may be useful for some tasks, but its presence does not guarantee a replacement for a full desktop or tablet workflow.

Samsung says the Fold7 was tested and verified for at least 200,000 folds. That is a manufacturer test figure, not a guarantee of how long a particular device will last in your hands.

Work out whether consolidation is worth the price

Do not compare the Fold’s price only with the cost of a tablet. First decide whether you would actually stop carrying, using, or replacing your tablet. If you keep it, the Fold is an added premium phone purchase rather than a two-device replacement.

  1. Estimate the phone cost you would incur anyway. Compare the Fold with the phone upgrade you would otherwise buy, not just with your current phone’s value.
  2. Count the tablet use you would genuinely move. Consider how often you use a larger screen for reading, video, browsing, document review, or multitasking, and whether the Fold’s 8-inch display suits those tasks.
  3. Account for the tablet you would retain. If you need it for pen input or another task the Fold does not cover, include that in the decision rather than assuming it disappears.
  4. Use your real net purchase cost. Check current pricing and eligible trade-in or other offers before deciding; the amount you pay may differ from the listed price.
  5. Compare the result with the value of carrying one device. If less device juggling matters to you, that convenience has value—but it is personal, not a fixed dollar saving.

Who is more likely to benefit?

Consider the Fold7 if

  • You regularly use a tablet but would be satisfied doing many of those tasks on an 8-inch screen.
  • You value carrying and managing one device more than keeping a separate phone and tablet.
  • Your tablet use does not depend on S Pen input, and your other essential workflows fit the Fold.
  • Your actual net price makes sense compared with the phone upgrade you would otherwise buy and the tablet use you would truly give up.

Keep the phone-and-tablet setup if

  • Your existing devices already do their separate jobs well and you would continue carrying or using both.
  • You rely on a stylus for handwriting or drawing.
  • You need a tablet experience that an 8-inch foldable screen does not suit.
  • The Fold’s price would be an extra premium purchase rather than a genuine consolidation.
