For U.S. buyers, the Galaxy S26 is a poor-value upgrade from the S25 at full price, but it can make sense as a discounted replacement for an older phone if you want a compact Samsung flagship. The price you see now matters more than the launch figure: Samsung raised prices on several S26 models in October 2026, and offers vary by storage, retailer, and carrier terms.
How much does the Galaxy S26 cost?
There is no single worldwide “new price.” Samsung Electronics America’s U.S. unlocked MSRP sheet, effective March 2026, lists these prices; the document says prices may change without notice.

Tom’s Guide reported a U.S. launch price of $899 for the 256GB S26 on March 11, 2026, compared with $859.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S25 at launch—a $40 difference. These are historical MSRP and launch-price references, not promises about what a retailer charges today. Tom’s Guide later reported in October 2026 that Samsung had raised prices for nearly every S26 model. Check the checkout price for the exact storage tier, color, and unlocked or carrier offer you plan to buy; promotions and terms can change the effective cost. The base S26 is a compact-sized Samsung flagship with a 6.3-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. Samsung lists 12GB of memory with 256GB or 512GB storage; configurations and availability can vary by market. Its battery is rated at 4,300mAh typical capacity, with a 4,175mAh rated minimum. Charging is a compromise
Samsung specifies 25W wired charging for the base S26. It estimates about 55% charge in roughly 30 minutes in its lab, with the phone at zero power, services, features, and screen off, using a Samsung adapter. That is a controlled manufacturer result, not a guarantee of everyday charging time. Samsung says the power adapter and data cable are sold separately and recommends its original 25W adapter and cable for this model. Qi2 accessories need a compatible case
TechRadar reports Qi2 support but no built-in magnets. If you want magnetic Qi2 accessories, you will need a compatible magnet-equipped case; factor that additional purchase into the decision if magnetic mounting or charging is important to you. TechRadar’s review discusses the Qi2 implementation.

Is it worth upgrading from the Galaxy S25?
Usually not at full price. Tom’s Guide says the hardware changes are limited and sees little reason for S25 owners to pay $899 for the 256GB S26. The S26 does have a larger display and battery than the S25, but that alone may not justify paying more so soon after buying a recent flagship. Should you buy the S26 if you have an older phone?
It can be a reasonable replacement if you want a compact Samsung flagship and value staying in Samsung’s ecosystem. TechRadar’s review describes strong general performance and a flagship display, and considers the cameras solid while cautioning against relying on the telephoto camera beyond 3x. The review’s author says they spent two weeks with the phone and first tested it in July 2026; these are the publication’s review findings, not independent testing for this article. TechRadar also notes that U.S. rivals such as the Pixel 10 and iPhone 17 started at lower prices at the time of its review, though rival pricing and availability are time-sensitive. A discounted S25 or a competing phone may deliver better value, depending on your priorities. Compare actual offers at the same storage capacity, and include any charger or case you need. The S26 makes most sense when the price is attractive and Samsung’s size, software ecosystem, and familiar features matter more to you than getting the lowest price for the hardware.

- Skip the upgrade: You already own an S25 and would pay close to full price for the S26.
- Wait or compare: The current S26 offer is near its full listed price, or a discounted S25 or another phone could meet your needs for less.
Before ordering, compare today’s checkout total, storage tier, and carrier or unlocked terms. Also decide whether you need to buy a separate 25W charger or a magnet-equipped case for Qi2 accessories.
