No—the Samsung Galaxy S23 is water-resistant, not waterproof. Samsung rates the S23 series IP68 and specifies resistance to immersion in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Those are controlled test limits, not a promise that the phone is safe for swimming, pool or beach use, or every kind of water exposure. Samsung explicitly advises against using it at a beach or pool.
What the Galaxy S23’s IP68 rating means
Samsung’s 2023 launch announcement gives the Galaxy S23 series an IP68 rating and describes the water-resistance condition as up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Samsung’s S23 series announcement presents this as water resistance, not as an unrestricted guarantee.
Samsung’s UK guidance explains that IPx8 devices are tested while still and cautions that resistance beyond the stated depth and time is not guaranteed. Samsung’s Galaxy water-resistance guidance also warns against high-pressure water. In practice, moving or forceful water, greater depth, or longer immersion can differ from the test conditions.

Samsung says beach or pool use is not advised for the S23 series. Pool water may contain chlorine, while seawater contains salt; Samsung identifies chlorinated water, saltwater, and other liquids as potential risks to the device. An IP68 rating does not make the phone suitable for swimming or deliberate exposure to these environments. Samsung Gulf Support’s S23-specific guidance explains these limitations.

If the phone gets saltwater or pool water on it, Samsung’s launch guidance says to rinse residue and dry the device. Samsung’s general guidance says to use fresh water after non-freshwater exposure, then dry the phone thoroughly. A Galaxy S23 manual copy hosted by Capital.lv also describes rinsing with fresh water after exposure to liquids other than fresh water; that copy is supplementary guidance, not a Samsung-hosted source. What can weaken water resistance?
Water resistance is not permanent. Samsung says it may decline with normal wear, and that drops, scratches, or other damage can compromise protection. A used or damaged phone therefore should not be assumed to retain the resistance of a new, undamaged device. Samsung also cautions against abnormal temperatures, including saunas and steam rooms. Samsung’s S23-series support article and Samsung UK’s water-resistance guidance cover these caveats.

What to do if your Galaxy S23 gets wet
- Wipe the exterior. Use a soft, clean cloth to dry the phone.
- Rinse residue when exposure was not to fresh water. If saltwater, pool water, or another liquid got on the device, rinse it with fresh water as Samsung advises, then dry it thoroughly.
- Wait before connecting anything. Do not connect a charger or accessory until the phone and its external connection jack are completely dry.
- Allow for temporary audio issues. A wet microphone or speaker can affect call or audio quality.
- Seek support if it malfunctions. Contact Samsung support or an authorized service center if problems continue after the phone has dried. The outcome of any liquid-damage claim depends on the applicable warranty terms and region; Samsung’s general water-resistance guidance does not establish a universal coverage outcome.
These drying and connection precautions come from Samsung UK’s Galaxy water-resistance guidance.

Should you rely on the S23’s water resistance?
Think of IP68 as limited protection against a particular kind of accidental exposure—not permission to submerge the phone. The published condition is fresh water, still immersion, up to 1.5 meters and up to 30 minutes; Samsung does not advise pool or beach use. If you intend to bring the phone near water despite that advice, a waterproof pouch is an optional extra precaution, but it is not Samsung-approved here and does not change the phone’s IP68 rating.
