What does the $5 monthly payment actually buy?
It is the advertised payment toward the handset, not a complete wireless bill. The cost of the required plan, taxes and applicable fees comes on top. For Bell, the listed device payment alone totals $120 across 24 months ($5 × 24); the separate $40 handling charge makes those stated device charges $160 before taxes, while the listing gives a full device price of $496.65. This arithmetic does not include the service plan or establish the total cost of the Bell agreement.

Freedom’s listing pairs its $5 MyTab device payment with a $45 monthly plan and a two-year term. Do not treat $50 as a guaranteed all-in bill: taxes, government fees and pay-per-use charges may be additional, and the offer may not be available to every customer.

Is a $5 Pixel 8 worth a two-year plan?
It depends on the service plan you would choose anyway, the phone’s condition and how long you expect to keep the plan. Compare each offer using the full written terms rather than the handset payment alone:
- Confirm that the plan is one you actually want, and ask for the monthly service price and eligibility rules in writing.
- Check whether the quoted phone is the storage capacity and condition grade you expect; both offers are CPO/previously owned.
- Add the phone instalments, upfront or handling charge, plan charges over 24 months, and taxes and fees to estimate your total commitment.
- Ask whether there is any return, buyout or end-of-term obligation; the retrieved listings do not establish comparable terms for both carriers.
- Review what happens if you cancel service or change plans before the term ends.
- Confirm local stock and the offer’s availability for your account and province before signing.
What to know about Bell’s CPO terms
Bell describes its Certified Pre-owned devices as previously owned and in full working order after a 10-point inspection by a qualified technician. Its listing says the Pixel 8 includes a charging cable and that all Bell Certified Pre-owned devices have a one-year warranty. Those details are specific to Bell; the retrieved Freedom listing does not establish equivalent inspection or warranty coverage.

Bell also warns that ending the SmartPay/service agreement early or moving to a non-eligible rate plan can make remaining device instalments immediately due, calculated using the pre-discount monthly amount. Early service cancellation fees may apply, subject to the Wireless Code. Review the agreement for how those terms apply to your situation.
How to verify the offer before you buy
- Open the carrier’s current device listing and confirm that the Pixel 8 is still offered at the advertised payment.
- Check the condition label, available storage, upfront charges and local inventory; deal pages and stock can change.
- Confirm the required plan, its eligibility rules and its full monthly price, including taxes and fees where applicable.
- Ask the carrier to show the full 24-month device and service commitment and explain the consequences of cancellation or a plan change.
- Save the written offer and agreement so you can compare the terms you accepted with the listing.
Freedom’s terms say an offer is subject to change or cancellation without notice. Check the carrier’s live terms at checkout rather than relying on a previously viewed price.
