The JBL Live 680NC is an on-ear wireless headphone whose standout appeal is a generous feature set paired with long claimed battery life: JBL rates it for up to 80 hours with ANC off or up to 50 hours with ANC on. TechRadar’s September 2026 review found capable, bass-forward sound, but noted softer treble, modest spatial audio, and pressure during long listening sessions. It makes the most sense if runtime, portability, and app features matter more to you than a neutral sound profile or an over-ear fit.

What the JBL Live 680NC offers

The Live 680NC is a wireless, foldable on-ear headphone, not an over-ear model. JBL lists 40 mm drivers, four microphones, Bluetooth 6.0, adaptive noise cancelling, and app support. Its feature mix is broad for a portable on-ear design, but the practical value depends on which modes and connections you will actually use.

  • Noise control: JBL calls its noise-cancelling system True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 and says it uses four microphones. Ambient Aware lets outside sound through, while TalkThru is intended to make conversation easier without removing the headphones. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent performance measurements. JBL’s US product page
  • Connections: Bluetooth multipoint is listed, and JBL says the headphones can pair with two Bluetooth devices at once and switch between them. That can be useful for moving between a computer and phone without repeatedly reconnecting. JBL’s product description
  • App and audio options: JBL lists app controls, EQ, spatial sound, and call features. TechRadar’s September 11, 2026 review also discusses Auracast support and customization through the app. The presence of these options does not guarantee that every listener will find them useful or compelling. TechRadar’s review

How long does the battery last?

JBL specifies up to 80 hours of Bluetooth music playback with ANC off and up to 50 hours with ANC on. These are manufacturer maximum estimates, not results from an independent runtime test; actual time can vary with volume, settings, and use. For a buyer deciding whether the headphones can cover a long trip or multiple days between charges, the ANC-on figure is the more relevant of the two if noise cancelling will stay enabled. JBL’s 2025 specification sheet says five minutes of charging provides up to four additional hours of playtime, and lists a two-hour charging time. These are also manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. JBL specification sheet

What do they sound like?

TechRadar’s reviewer described the sound as competent rather than especially inspiring, with forceful bass and a somewhat rolled-off high end. That balance may suit listeners who enjoy bass-heavy music; listeners seeking prominent treble detail or a more even presentation may be less satisfied. The review’s account is a subjective listening impression, not a measurement or a universal verdict. TechRadar, September 11, 2026

The same reviewer found the spatial audio underwhelming in practice. The feature is present, but it should not be the main reason to buy the headphones if immersive spatial playback is your priority. TechRadar review

Are they comfortable for long listening sessions?

JBL describes the headphones as lightweight and shaped for comfort. Its specification sheet lists a weight of 231.16 g; that figure is a product specification, not proof that a particular listener will find the fit comfortable. JBL specification sheet

TechRadar’s reviewer reported pressure at the top of the head during longer sessions. Because comfort and head shape vary, anyone especially sensitive to clamping or headband pressure should try an on-ear fit where possible and check the retailer’s return terms before buying. TechRadar review

What comes in the box—and what does not?

JBL’s US listing includes the headphones, a 3.5 mm audio cable, a carrying pouch, warranty and warning material, and a quick-start guide. It explicitly says a charging cable is not included. The supplied 3.5 mm cable is for analog audio; it is not a USB cable for charging. JBL US product page

JBL also lists its Smart Tx transmitter as a separate accessory. JBL says it can connect to 3.5 mm or USB-C sources, so it is an optional route for connecting to certain wired sources—not a required part of the Live 680NC purchase. JBL specification sheet

Who should buy the JBL Live 680NC?

Consider the Live 680NC if you want an on-ear foldable headphone with a substantial set of listed features and are drawn to JBL’s long maximum battery-life claims. It is a less obvious fit if you are treble-focused, want spatial audio to be a central strength, need a charging cable included, or know that on-ear pressure bothers you.

JBL announced the Live 680NC alongside the Live 780NC on May 12, 2026. TechRadar’s reviewer said the 780NC sounded better and handled weight distribution better, while costing about $100 more in that review’s comparison. Treat that as one reviewer’s assessment in its September 2026 context, not a standardized head-to-head result or a guarantee of today’s price difference. JBL announcement · TechRadar review

If you compare it with other headphones, focus on like-for-like details: runtime with ANC on, sound balance and EQ, comfort over a full session, multipoint and app compatibility, foldability and weight, included cables, and current local price. On-ear and over-ear designs are not interchangeable, so fit deserves as much attention as the feature list.
