Yes, the iPhone 11 could be worth buying in 2024 as an inexpensive used phone for everyday basics—provided it is in good condition and costs meaningfully less than a newer used iPhone. It supported iOS 18, but its LCD screen, LTE-only cellular connection, Lightning port, and the battery wear common in older used phones are important trade-offs. There is no universal good price: compare local offers and the condition of each specific phone.

What made the iPhone 11 a reasonable 2024 buy?

Apple included iPhone 11 on its iOS 18 compatibility list, so it could run that major iOS release in the 2024 buying context. Compatibility alone does not guarantee a particular number of future major iOS updates or access to every feature in an update.

As of October 8, 2026, Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list also includes iPhone 11. That is a current snapshot, not a promise about later releases or feature availability. Swappa’s 2026 resale-market commentary describes it as one of the cheaper iPhones able to run Apple’s current software, but that is a dated market perspective—not a price guide or assessment of any individual phone.

Which compromises matter most?

LCD rather than OLED

Apple lists a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD LCD display with a resolution of 1792 by 828 pixels (326 ppi). It is a practical screen for everyday use, but buyers who specifically want OLED should consider a different model.

Apple iPhone 11, 64GB, Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
  • Successfully passed a full diagnostic test which ensures like-new functionality and removal of any prior-user personal information.

LTE, not 5G

Apple’s iPhone 11 specifications list Gigabit-class LTE and do not list 5G. That makes it a weaker choice if 5G access is important where you live or travel. Check carrier compatibility and coverage for your location before buying.

Lightning charging and battery condition

The phone has a Lightning connector and supports Qi wireless charging. Apple says it can charge to up to 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W-or-higher adapter, sold separately. The advertised battery figures—up to 17 hours of video playback and up to 10 hours of streamed video playback—are Apple test figures for the product, not expectations for a used handset. A phone’s present battery condition matters more than its original rating.

  • Price and battery: Compare the asking price with battery health and peak-performance status. If a replacement may be needed, get a current quote for your region and include it in the total.
  • Storage: Confirm the capacity and whether it suits your photos, apps, and other files.
  • Connectivity: Verify carrier lock status, network compatibility, and whether LTE meets your needs or you require 5G.
  • Screen and hardware: Decide whether the iPhone 11’s LCD and older hardware meet your expectations.
  • Included equipment: Check whether accessories are included and whether you already have compatible Lightning equipment.
  • History and protections: Review repair history, seller warranty, and return terms. Clarify whether the phone is refurbished, repaired, or simply used.
  • Software horizon: Consider how much future major iOS support matters to you; no guaranteed end date is established here.

In 2026, Swappa characterized a newer phone as potentially more sensible for some buyers. Treat that as general market commentary, not a verdict on a particular listing. The right choice depends on the gap between the offers and the condition and features of the phones being compared.

How to inspect a used iPhone 11 before paying

  1. Check the battery. On the phone, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Review Maximum Capacity and Peak Performance Capability. Apple says batteries in iPhone 14 and earlier are designed to retain 80% of original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions. That is a design benchmark; actual capacity varies with use and charging, and it cannot predict a specific used phone’s remaining lifespan.
  2. Review service history. Open Settings > General > About > Parts and Service History, where available. Apple documents battery and display service history for iPhone 11 models. Review the status shown and ask the seller about repairs that are not documented there.
  3. Test essential functions in person. Check Face ID, cameras, speakers, microphone, buttons, touchscreen, Lightning charging, Wi-Fi, and cellular service. These checks can reveal problems but do not substitute for a warranty or return option.
  4. Confirm the purchase details. Check storage, carrier lock status, activation readiness, seller return terms, warranty, and the phone’s stated condition before completing the sale.
  5. Recalculate if service is needed. If battery replacement appears necessary, obtain a current, region-specific quote before deciding whether the phone is still good value. Cost and availability vary by region and device condition.

Who should buy one—and who should skip it?

The iPhone 11 is most defensible for someone who wants a lower-cost iPhone for basic everyday use, is comfortable with LTE and an LCD, and finds a well-kept unit substantially cheaper than a suitable newer used alternative. It is a weaker fit if you need 5G, want an OLED display, prioritize newer hardware, or expect a long period of future major iOS upgrades. Apple’s current compatibility listing is useful evidence of support today, but it cannot establish a guaranteed end date.
