Yes—the ID-COOLING FROZN A720 is a credible lower-cost alternative to consider, but the available evidence does not show that it matches the original Noctua NH-D15 in a direct comparison or costs $50–$60 less. Tom’s Hardware reported strong A720 results on an Intel Core i7-13700K, alongside a warning that it can be loud at maximum fan speed. The price snapshots available for comparison are dated and refer to the NH-D15 G2, not the original model.
What the FROZN A720 offers
The FROZN A720 is a large dual-tower air cooler with seven 6 mm heatpipes, a copper base, aluminum fins, and two 140 mm PWM fans. ID-COOLING lists its overall dimensions as 140 × 153 × 163 mm and its weight with fans as 1,300 g. Its published socket list includes Intel LGA20XX, LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200 and LGA115x sockets, plus AMD AM4 and AM5. ID-COOLING’s FROZN A720 BLACK specifications also list fan speeds of 500–1,800 ±10 RPM and maximum noise of 33.5 dB(A).
ID-COOLING rates the cooler at 300 W TDP. That is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee that every 300 W processor will stay below a particular temperature or noise level. Case airflow, CPU, motherboard contact, fan settings, and workload all affect the outcome.

In a review published on 9 February 2024, Tom’s Hardware found that the A720 topped its test charts and kept an Intel Core i7-13700K from throttling in most scenarios. The review reports a maximum tested TDP of 240W+ for the A720 with that CPU; this is a review result, not the same thing as ID-COOLING’s 300 W vendor rating. Tom’s Hardware’s FROZN A720 and A620 review also lists loud noise at maximum fan speeds as a con.

The test used an Intel Core i7-13700K and MSI Z690 A Pro DDR4 motherboard in a 23°C room. Thermal runs lasted 10 minutes; the review included noise-normalized testing and scenarios limited to 175 W and 125 W, as well as default testing without power limits. Those results are useful evidence that the A720 can handle a demanding Intel setup, but they do not establish how it performs on an AMD AM5 system or prove that it beats the NH-D15 under the same test conditions. The review did not make a same-method A720-versus-NH-D15 comparison.
A720 vs. the original Noctua NH-D15
The original NH-D15 is a different product from the NH-D15 G2. Noctua lists the original at 168 mm tall, with six heatpipes, two NF-A15 PWM fans, and a weight of 1,320 g with fans. Its listed socket support includes AM4, AM5, LGA1700, LGA1851, LGA1954 and older LGA115x/LGA1200 sockets. Noctua specifies a six-year warranty and includes two low-noise adaptors, a PWM splitter, NT-H1 thermal compound and a SecuFirm2 mounting kit. The A720 is 5 mm shorter, but that difference alone does not settle compatibility or cooling performance. The products’ heatpipe counts and fan models also do not establish which one will cool better in a particular PC.

Check case and RAM clearance before buying
Compare the cooler’s height with the case manufacturer’s CPU-cooler clearance, and measure your memory modules. At 163 mm, the A720 needs less vertical room than the original NH-D15 at 168 mm, but the front fan can still interfere with tall RAM. Tom’s Hardware says the A720’s front fan is limited to 40 mm RAM clearance unless the fan is raised. Raising it can cause some cooling loss, and it also increases the cooler’s effective height.

- Check the case’s maximum CPU-cooler height against the installed cooler, including any fan raised above its standard position.
- Measure RAM height and confirm whether the front fan can sit at its normal position.
- Verify the exact socket and mounting hardware for your motherboard and cooler revision; listed socket support does not replace a board-level fit check.
Does the A720 really cost $50–$60 less?
The available figures do not substantiate that exact saving against the original NH-D15. Tom’s Hardware listed an A720 MSRP of $69.99 in its February 2024 review. PriceHistory.app reported $69.99 for the A720 in a 6 September 2026 snapshot, while its 9 September 2026 snapshot listed $159.95 for the NH-D15 G2—not the original NH-D15. For a meaningful comparison, check both exact models at the same retailer on the same day, and account for finish, shipping, and tax. Do not assume that a price gap between the A720 and the G2 applies to the original NH-D15.

Which cooler should you choose?
Choose the A720 if
- You want a high-end dual-tower cooler and the A720 is meaningfully less expensive than the exact Noctua model you are considering.
- Your case and memory fit its 163 mm height and front-fan arrangement.
- You are comfortable with the evidence being a strong but platform-specific Intel test, rather than a direct NH-D15 comparison.
Consider the original NH-D15 if
- You value its stated six-year warranty, included accessories, or Noctua’s listed socket support.
- Its 168 mm height and fan arrangement fit your case and memory.
- You prefer to compare it on the basis of its own specifications and support rather than assume the A720 has equivalent performance.
Neither product is automatically the better buy without a current, model-specific price and a fit check for your system. The A720 is a strong alternative supported by published testing; calling it the “new NH-D15” overstates what that evidence establishes.
