Hansø says its Horizon Smart Pergola can resist winds up to 165 mph with the louvers closed and the structure properly mounted to the ground, and up to 120 mph with the louvers open. Those are manufacturer-reported figures, not independently verified here: Hansø’s product page says the rating is certified but does not provide the engineering report. The motorized roof can be adjusted by phone, remote, or voice assistant, according to Hansø.
What the Hansø Horizon offers
Hansø describes Horizon as a Generation 5 motorized louvered pergola with a T6 aluminum frame, double-layer louvers, and integrated lighting. The manufacturer says the louvers rotate from 0 to 135 degrees and can be controlled through a phone, remote, or voice assistant. Its product page advertises Alexa and Google Home compatibility, but does not specify setup steps or supported commands.
Hansø also lists shades and glass walls as accessories. These are product-page specifications and options, not independent hands-on findings. See the Hansø Horizon product page.

What Hansø claims about wind resistance
| Configuration | Hansø’s stated wind resistance |
|---|---|
| Louvers closed; pergola properly ground-mounted | Up to 165 mph, according to Hansø Home; publication year not stated on the product page |
| Louvers open | Up to 120 mph, according to Hansø Home; publication year not stated on the product page |
Hansø calls the closed-louver figure Category 5 and says its wind rating is independently certified and documented. However, the cited product page does not name the testing body or protocol, show the engineering report, or spell out the complete rated installation configuration. The figures should therefore be treated as Hansø’s claims unless the company supplies documentation that verifies the tested setup and scope.

Does that mean it is hurricane-resistant?
The National Hurricane Center’s Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale classifies hurricanes by maximum sustained wind speed. Category 5 begins at 157 mph or higher. Hansø’s stated 165 mph figure exceeds that threshold numerically, but comparing the two numbers does not establish how a pergola will perform in a particular storm or installation.
The NHC states: “The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale is a 1 to 5 rating based only on a hurricane’s maximum sustained wind speed.” The scale does not account for storm surge, rainfall flooding, or tornadoes, and it is not a structural-performance certification for pergolas. A wind-resistance claim cannot be read as protection against all hurricane hazards. See the National Hurricane Center’s Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

What to verify before relying on the rating
Before buying or installing Horizon in a high-wind area, ask Hansø and your installer for documentation that applies to the exact model, site, and installation. In particular, request:
- The engineering report, including the testing organization, protocol, and whether the stated rating was independently certified.
- The tested configuration, including louver position and any limits or exclusions.
- Anchoring, foundation, and ground-mounting requirements, with confirmation that the proposed installation meets them.
- Any local building approvals or permits required for your site.
Hansø also states a snow-load figure of 60 pounds per square foot and lists a 10-year warranty. Confirm the load specification for the intended configuration and location, and review current warranty terms, exclusions, and installation requirements with the manufacturer. The cited product page does not establish how those terms apply to every installation.
