Yes—Steam’s September 2026 Hardware & Software Survey lists the GeForce RTX 5070 first in its overall video-card distribution, at 6.15%. That makes it the leading card in Steam’s displayed survey list, not necessarily the world’s best-selling GPU or the best choice for your next PC.
What the September 2026 Steam survey says
In the Steam Hardware & Software Survey: September 2026, Valve’s overall video-card table shows the GeForce RTX 5070 at 6.15%, the highest share among the cards listed. The same page has a separate DirectX 12 table, where the RTX 5070 is listed at 6.35%. Those are different distributions; the 6.15% figure is the relevant one for the overall ranking.

Steam’s overall table shows the RTX 5070 at 3.77% in August and 6.15% in September—a rise of 2.38 percentage points. This is the change displayed between those two months in Steam’s survey, not a count of GPUs sold.
Why some reports give a different percentage
Two reports published October 2, 2026, give different figures from Steam’s live table. Hardware Busters reports 5.86% for September and 3.56% for August; TweakTown also reports 5.86% for September. The sources do not establish why their figures differ from the official page as accessed, so the numbers should not be combined or treated as interchangeable. The ranking and percentages here use Steam’s September page.

What “most popular on Steam” does—and doesn’t—mean
The survey indicates how graphics hardware is represented among participating Steam users under Steam’s survey methodology. It is not a global sales ranking, a benchmark, or a judgment about value. A larger survey share does not tell you how quickly a card renders games, how much it costs where you live, or whether it suits your case, power supply, monitor, and workload.
Monthly shares can also move sharply. In its account of the February 2026 survey, PC Gamer reported the RTX 5070 rising from 2.87% in January to 9.42% in February. That abrupt change is a reason to describe month-to-month results as survey shifts rather than proof that a matching number of people suddenly bought the card.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the ranking mean you should buy an RTX 5070?
No. Steam’s ranking can show that the card is common among surveyed users, but it cannot answer whether it is the right purchase for you. Compare current prices and independent performance results at your target resolution, then check the specific card’s power and cooling requirements, memory capacity, and physical dimensions against your PC and budget. The survey alone does not settle those trade-offs.
