It can be worth it if you want one system for drying, curling, shaping, and smoothing—and will use the attachments that come with your chosen set. If your dryer and curling iron already deliver the styles you want, an Airwrap may mostly duplicate tools you own. Its versatility matters only when it solves a real need in your routine.
What the Airwrap adds to your current tools
Dyson describes the Airwrap as a multi-styler and dryer. Its interchangeable attachments are designed for curls and waves, shaping with brushes, drying, and smoothing. That range can be useful if you regularly switch among those results and want them in one system. It does not automatically make a separate dryer or curling iron unnecessary: the value depends on your preferred finish, technique, hair, and the attachments included in the set you are considering.
Dyson’s attachment page says its Coanda smoothing dryer produces up to 58% less frizz and flyaways than air drying. That is a Dyson claim with air drying as its baseline—not a comparison with your existing hair dryer or curling iron. See Dyson’s Airwrap attachment details.

- You regularly want more than one result, such as curls or waves as well as drying, shaping, or smoothing.
- You are interested in airflow styling and expect to use several of the attachments in the exact configuration you buy.
- You want to consolidate multiple styling functions into one system, rather than simply replace a working curling iron.
When your dryer and curling iron may be enough
- You are happy with the finish and routine your current tools provide.
- You mainly wear one style and would leave most Airwrap attachments unused.
- You want a replacement for just one tool, but the Airwrap set you are considering includes functions you do not need.
In these cases, the Airwrap’s range of functions may not translate into personal value. The available product information describes capabilities, but does not establish that buying an Airwrap is a better-value choice for every owner of conventional tools.

What Airwrap i.d. adds—and what it does not prove
The Airwrap i.d. connects to the MyDyson app. Dyson says you enter your hair type, length, and skill level, and the device automates the wrap, style, and set steps for curls. That could appeal if you want a guided, repeatable sequence. If you prefer your own technique or do not want app-guided curling, the feature may not matter to you.
App automation is a product feature, not evidence of better styling results or better value. Dyson’s August 26, 2024 announcement of the Airwrap i.d. quotes Dyson Associate Design Manager Low Chen Nyeow describing the feature as a personalized experience, and Dyson Global Styling Ambassador Matthew Collins saying it takes guesswork out of getting ready. Those are manufacturer statements, not independent evaluations.

Compare the model and attachments before deciding
Model generations and set contents differ, so compare the actual listing rather than relying on the Airwrap name alone. Dyson describes the Co-anda2x as a model with intelligent attachments, airflow and heat adjustments, and app connectivity. The available sources do not independently rank it against the Airwrap i.d. or other generations for results, ease, durability, or value. Check Dyson’s Co-anda2x product page and the specific 2025 straight-and-wavy configuration for the model and set currently being considered.

- Drying and smoothing: Would those attachments add something useful, given your current dryer?
- Guidance: Would you actually use app setup and automated curl timing?

Heat claims: useful context, not a no-damage guarantee
Dyson says the Airwrap i.d. uses airflow and controlled heat, keeping the temperature below 302°F, and describes this as helping protect hair from heat damage. That is manufacturer language, not independent proof that the Airwrap causes no damage or less damage than every conventional dryer or curling iron. The available sources do not provide an independent head-to-head study of hair damage or styling outcomes.
Hair condition and styling routine still matter. Treat the controlled-heat description as a feature Dyson claims, not a guarantee about what will happen to your hair.

- List the styles you actually wear and the tools you use to create them.
- Match those styles to the attachments in the exact Airwrap set you are considering.
- Decide whether consolidating tools or app-guided curls would make a meaningful difference to your routine.
- Compare the current price and set contents with keeping your existing tools; do not assume every Airwrap function is useful just because it is included.
