The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCWM combines a sharp 4K picture with a high-refresh-rate option, but it does not deliver both headline modes at once: it runs at up to 240 Hz in 4K or up to 480 Hz at 1920 × 1080. That makes it a compelling fit for players who want to switch between detailed single-player games and competitive play—if they can live with its glossy screen, sizeable stand and premium price.

What does the PG27UCWM offer?

The PG27UCWM is a 26.5-inch viewable-area OLED monitor sold in the 27-inch class, with a native resolution of 3840 × 2160. Its defining feature is Dual Mode: 4K at up to 240 Hz, or Full HD (1920 × 1080) at up to 480 Hz. The 480 Hz setting is not 4K; switching to it means accepting lower resolution in exchange for a higher refresh ceiling. ASUS also lists a 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time, a manufacturer specification rather than a guarantee that every pixel transition takes that long. ASUS announced the Dual Mode and product positioning in July 2026.

ASUS describes the panel as Tandem RGB OLED with an RGB-stripe subpixel arrangement, while its technical specifications list the panel type as WOLED. ASUS says this design removes the white subpixel found in conventional WOLED and claims up to 27% larger color volume in its comparison. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement of this monitor.

How good is its image quality?

The combination of 4K resolution and a 26.5-inch screen gives the PG27UCWM a fine-pixel presentation suited to detailed games, text and general desktop work. Its glossy TrueBlack finish can make the image feel especially contrast-rich, but the trade-off is visible reflections in a bright room.

  • Dual-Mode High-Performance Display: 26.5-inch QHD OLED gaming monitor with versatile dual mode (QHD @ 540Hz or HD @ 720Hz) and 0.02ms response time
  • Advanced Tandem OLED Technology: New Tandem OLED technology delivers 15% higher peak brightness, 25% larger color volume, and 60% longer OLED lifespan versus previous-generation WOLED panels
  • TrueBlack Glossy Panel: New TrueBlack Glossy panel provides a zero-haze surface and exceptionally sharp imagery
  • OLED Care Pro with Neo Proximity Sensor: ASUS OLED Care Pro with Neo Proximity Sensor precisely detects when the user is away and switches to a black screen to reduce the risk of burn-in
  • Exceptional HDR Performance: VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black compliance, 99.5% DCI-P3 gamut, true 10-bit color, and Delta E<2 color difference for astonishing HDR performance

In its review, WIRED rated the monitor 8/10. Reviewer Matthew S. Smith measured 94% DCI-P3 and 89% AdobeRGB gamut coverage, and brightness up to 800 nits on WIRED’s sample and test method. Those are independent review results, not guaranteed figures for every unit. WIRED also noted that competing QD-OLED models can cover wider gamuts, while describing the PG27UCWM’s clear, high-contrast presentation as making its colors feel impactful. That impression is subjective, not a measured color-volume advantage. WIRED’s review discusses its test results and practical trade-offs.

ASUS lists 250 cd/m² typical brightness and 1,000 cd/m² HDR peak brightness, as well as DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. These are official specifications and certification, distinct from WIRED’s measurements. The monitor supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision; Tom’s Hardware also lists those formats in its September 14, 2026 review.

Will the glossy screen work in your room?

WIRED found the finish mirror-like under ambient light. It also noted that the coating can minimize the impact of ambient light on the display, so it is not simply a reflection-proof solution: reflections remain noticeable. If a window, lamp or bright wall sits behind you, consider where the screen will face before buying. In a controlled or dimmer room, the glossy surface may suit viewers who value deep blacks and a high-contrast appearance.

Who benefits from the two refresh modes?

The 4K/240 Hz mode is the natural default for players who want fine detail and smooth motion together. The FHD/480 Hz mode is aimed at competitive play where a very high refresh ceiling matters more than native 4K detail. It is useful only if your PC or console can supply the required frame rates in the games you play; the monitor’s refresh-rate ceiling does not guarantee those frame rates.

  • Choose it for mixed gaming if you expect to use both modes—for example, 4K for visually rich games and FHD at 480 Hz for fast competitive titles.
  • Look elsewhere or spend less if you would use only one mode and can find a less expensive display that meets that specific need.
  • Consider a larger screen if immersion and physical image size matter more to you than the compact 26.5-inch 4K presentation.

The PG27UCWM is not automatically the best balance of image quality and competitive performance for everyone. The value of its flexibility depends on whether you will actually switch modes, and on whether your system can drive the games you play at very high frame rates.

What connections and setup options does it have?

ASUS lists DisplayPort 2.1a, two HDMI 2.1 ports and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 90 W Power Delivery. The display also has three USB-A hub ports and a KVM function for sharing connected peripherals between systems. ASUS UK specifies up to 80 Gbps bandwidth for DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 and says that connection supports 4K at 240 Hz without compression. Actual mode support depends on the graphics source, cable and connection; check those specifications rather than assuming every port-device combination can output every advertised mode. ASUS UK lists the DisplayPort bandwidth and connection details.

  • Smooth Gaming Technology: G-Sync compatible technology delivers seamless, tear-free gaming; and optional uniform brightness setting ensures consistent luminance levels

For physical setup, the monitor supports a 100 × 100 mm VESA mount. WIRED found its included stand stable but said the wide base takes substantial desk space. A compatible monitor arm is an option if reclaiming desk area matters, but it is not required to use the display.

What does it cost, and is it worth the premium?

The ASUS US store displayed a price of $1,199 when checked on October 7, 2026; WIRED also used a $1,200 retail figure in its review. Treat that as a US price snapshot, not a current or worldwide quote, because store prices and stock can change. Check the ASUS US product page for current regional pricing and availability.

At roughly $1,200 in the cited US listings, the case for paying more rests on the unusually flexible 4K/240 Hz and FHD/480 Hz modes, OLED contrast, broad connectivity, Dolby Vision and the RGB-stripe design. The case weakens if you will not use the 480 Hz option, dislike glossy screens, need a smaller stand footprint, or would prefer a larger screen. WIRED’s review likewise identifies the reflections, desk space and high retail price as drawbacks.

  • With LiveDash* OLED display on the front deco bar, you could choose to display either a customized icon image or the system information such as CPU temperature, GPU info and more

ASUS announced availability on July 15, 2026, but that global announcement does not establish when the monitor went on sale in every market. WIRED’s review described an October availability window. Check the regional store listing for current stock rather than assuming the dates apply everywhere. ASUS US lists a three-year warranty that includes panel burn-in; warranty terms can differ by country, so confirm the terms for your region on the relevant product page.

Verdict: Should you buy the PG27UCWM?

Buy it if you want a compact, high-detail 4K OLED for most games and a genuine FHD/480 Hz mode for titles where competitive speed takes priority. Its strongest argument is not that it makes 4K run at 480 Hz—it does not—but that one display offers two distinct gaming priorities alongside extensive ports and USB-C charging. Pass if the glossy finish is a poor match for your room, the large stand will crowd your desk, or you would not make meaningful use of both refresh modes at its premium price.
