$699.99 is a reported early-retail figure, not a confirmed ASUS launch price. The report ties that amount to the higher-end Ryzen Z1 Extreme model, but ASUS’s official specification page confirms the device’s hardware—not its price. The exact model is the 2023 ROG Ally RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512.

Is the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme really $699.99?

That price is provisional. A May 26, 2026 article from Position Is Everything says $699.99 surfaced in early retail listing activity for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme configuration. The article also cautions that early listings may be placeholders and that prices can change; taxes and bundles can affect the amount a buyer ultimately pays. It does not provide a full official ASUS pricing breakdown.

ASUS’s product specifications do not confirm $699.99 as a launch price or establish a current price. Treat the figure as a reported expectation, not a guaranteed price or a universal price across regions. Check a retailer’s live listing for your location before deciding whether the Ally fits your budget.

Which ROG Ally model does the price refer to?

ASUS identifies the device as the ROG Ally (2023) RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512. That model designation matters: the reported figure is associated with the Z1 Extreme configuration, and should not be taken as a price for every ROG Ally variant.

What are the official ROG Ally Z1 Extreme specs?

ASUS lists the following specifications for the RC71L-ALLY.Z1X_512:

Component ASUS-listed specification
Processor AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, Zen 4 architecture, 4nm process; 8 cores and 16 threads; 24MB total cache; boost clock up to 5.10GHz
Graphics AMD Radeon RDNA 3, 12 compute units; up to 2.7GHz and up to 8.6 teraflops
TDP 9–30W
Display 7-inch, 16:9 FHD (1920×1080) IPS-level touchscreen; 120Hz refresh rate; 7ms response time; 500 nits; 100% sRGB; Gorilla Glass Victus with DXC; AMD FreeSync Premium
Memory 16GB dual-channel LPDDR5 at 6400MT/s
Storage 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2230 SSD
Operating system Windows 11 Home
Port USB-C combination port supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2 and DisplayPort 1.4

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of performance, battery life, heat or fan noise. ASUS’s listed 9–30W TDP is a hardware range; it does not by itself show how quickly a particular game runs or how long the handheld lasts away from a charger. The USB-C port supports DisplayPort 1.4, which can be useful with a compatible dock or display, but that does not mean a dock is included.

How does the ROG Ally compare with Steam Deck?

The available confirmed information supports a hardware comparison of the Ally, but not a complete buying verdict against Steam Deck. The Ally has a 1920×1080, 120Hz touchscreen and runs Windows 11 Home. A fair comparison should also account for the specific Steam Deck model and current prices, neither of which is established here.

For a useful side-by-side decision, compare the exact models on these points:

  • Price: use confirmed live prices in your region, not the Ally’s provisional $699.99 report.
  • Game performance: compare results from the same games and settings at stated power levels; component specifications alone do not settle real-world performance.
  • Battery life: look for results in the same game, with comparable brightness and settings.
  • Screen: consider resolution and refresh rate alongside the games you play and the battery trade-off.
  • Software compatibility: check whether your launchers, games and preferred operating system work as you expect.
  • Storage and support: compare upgrade options, warranty terms and retail support for the specific models available where you live.
  • Comfort and acoustics: seek comparable information about heat and fan noise rather than assuming that a specification predicts them.

Is the Z1 Extreme model worth it, and should you wait?

The Z1 Extreme configuration has a clearly specified high-end processor and graphics unit, a 120Hz 1080p screen, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Whether those features justify the cost depends on the confirmed price in your region, the games and launchers you use, and independent results for the performance and battery life you care about. The reported $699.99 figure alone is not enough to establish value.

If you are not buying immediately, waiting for ASUS or a retailer to confirm the price can prevent a decision based on a placeholder listing. Before purchasing, verify the exact model number, current local price, stock status, and return and warranty terms. If performance, battery life, thermals or noise are decisive for you, look for tests that identify the game, settings and power level rather than relying on specification-sheet figures.
