At the deal prices reported on October 6, 2026, the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 with 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage was listed at $1,099 in the US, down from $1,299. TechRadar reported a UK price of £1,199 from £1,299; Macworld listed the equivalent UK configuration at £1,199.97 from £1,299. Those are dated reports, not a guarantee that the offer is still available. Check the live listing and checkout total before buying.
For someone who wants a light laptop for everyday work, study, and moderate creative tasks, the deal looks compelling if the current price and retailer terms check out. Lance Ulanoff, author of TechRadar’s March 9, 2026 review, called it “still the best ultraportable I’ve ever used”—a personal review judgment, not an objective ranking.
What was the reported Amazon Prime Day deal?
TechRadar’s October 6, 2026 deal article reported the following price for the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage. Macworld’s October 6 roundup independently listed the same US configuration and a slightly different UK price.
| Market and configuration | Reported deal price | Reported reference price | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| US, 13-inch, 16GB/512GB | $1,099 | $1,299 | TechRadar and Macworld, October 6, 2026 |
| UK, 13-inch, 16GB/512GB | £1,199 (TechRadar); £1,199.97 (Macworld) | £1,299 | TechRadar and Macworld, October 6, 2026 |
The reported US discount is $200 off the cited reference price. Apple raised Mac prices in June 2026, according to Macworld’s October buying guide, so comparisons with older sale prices can be misleading. The October reports do not establish that this is an all-time low.

Is the MacBook Air M5 worth buying at that price?
It is a strong fit if portability, a quality everyday display, and enough capacity for normal work matter more than sustained high-end performance. In Lance Ulanoff’s March 9, 2026 TechRadar review, the laptop handled productivity tasks, photo editing, and social video editing during five days of use. Those are the reviewer’s findings, not independent testing by this publication.

The main caveat is that the M5 generation keeps a familiar design. TechRadar’s review describes the update as incremental: the M5 brings performance and efficiency improvements, while 512GB became the starting storage capacity. Ulanoff also noted the higher starting price compared with the earlier model. If you already own a recent Air and it meets your needs, the deal alone may not justify upgrading.
What stands out for everyday use
- Portability: TechRadar lists the aluminum 13-inch model at 2.7 pounds (1.24 kg), making it well suited to carrying between home, work, and school.
- Screen: The review identifies a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a useful size for travel and routine desk work.
- Connectivity and camera: TechRadar reports Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a 12MP Center Stage camera.
- Battery: Apple’s claim, as reported in the review, is up to 18 hours of video streaming. Ulanoff said his mixed-use battery experience came closer to that maximum than his earlier experience with the M4, but actual runtime depends on use and the maximum is not a promise of all-day battery life.
What may make you hesitate
- The design changes are limited compared with the M4 Air, so owners of a recent model may see less reason to upgrade.
- The Air is not automatically the right choice for sustained professional workloads. If your work routinely involves demanding, long-running tasks, compare it with a MacBook Pro or another higher-performance machine.
- Ulanoff said Apple Intelligence had not convinced him of its utility in his review. That is his assessment, rather than a measure of how useful the features will be for every buyer.
Should you choose the 13-inch or 15-inch Air?
The 13-inch model favors portability and had the lower reported deal price. The 15-inch model provides more screen space, but is heavier and more expensive. Macworld’s October 6 roundup listed these US and UK prices for the 16GB/512GB M5 configurations:

Choose by how you work, not just by the discount. The 13-inch display is the more practical trade-off if you carry your laptop often; the 15-inch screen can make side-by-side windows and longer desk sessions more comfortable. These dated prices may no longer be available.

How to decide whether this deal suits you
- Match the workload. For browsing, office work, study, video calls, and moderate photo or social-video editing, the review suggests the Air has ample capability. For sustained demanding professional work, evaluate a higher-performance laptop instead.
- Check the exact configuration. Confirm 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage if you are comparing against the reported deal. Different memory or storage options can have different prices.
- Pick a screen size. Favor the 13-inch model for easier carrying or the 15-inch model if the larger workspace matters more than a lower price and lighter load.
- Compare the live price with current pricing. Use the actual listing and checkout total, and account for Apple’s June 2026 price increase when judging comparisons with older promotions.
- Check purchase terms. Verify seller, stock, new or refurbished condition, delivery, warranty, and return policy before placing the order.
