SuperStation One is most compelling if you want a MiSTer FPGA system in a console-style case with both HDMI and native analog video outputs. Its PlayStation 1 focus, broad potential through MiSTer cores, and flexible connections make it an unusually adaptable setup—but it is not a plug-and-play console: you supply the games, configure the software, and should expect some file and SD-card troubleshooting. Whether that trade-off is worthwhile depends largely on your display, existing hardware, and comfort with setup.
What is SuperStation One?
Retro Remake describes SuperStation One as a console-shaped FPGA system designed around PlayStation 1 gaming and compatible with the MiSTer FPGA platform. Its hardware includes a Cyclone V FPGA and 128MB of SDRAM. PlayStation 1 is the design focus, but the system can load other MiSTer cores; what you can play and how well each system works depends on the available core and your configuration. It is not a fixed, guaranteed library of systems. Retro Remake’s product page describes the hardware and its outputs.
This is an FPGA device, not a conventional mini console with a preinstalled game menu. Retro Remake says it ships without built-in games or copyrighted material. You need to set up the software and provide your own game files; the manufacturer says users can load backups of PS1 games and ROMs for other systems from the included microSD card or a USB drive. Make sure any game files you use are lawful for your circumstances.
What makes its connections useful?
The standout hardware feature is the range of display outputs. The product page lists HDMI output up to 1536p/1440p, plus VGA, DIN10, composite/RCA, and component video. Retro Remake says digital and analog video can be output at the same time. That flexibility can suit someone who wants to use a modern display and a CRT-oriented setup without choosing a device limited to HDMI alone.

- IO board that adds VGA Connector, 3.5mm Audio Jack, Secondary SD, and TOSLink, 3 Buttons, 3 Status LEDs, V6.1
- USB Hub board that provides 6 additional USB ports
- USB expansion bridge connector with protective case
- RTC V1.3 Real Time Clock Board
Check your display’s actual inputs and regional cable requirements before buying a lead: the connector alone does not establish that a particular cable, pinout, or video standard will work with your equipment. The system also has analog 3.5mm audio and TOSLINK digital audio, three USB-A ports, Ethernet, a TF card slot, two combo PS1 SNAC ports, and an expansion slot for SuperDock. See the manufacturer’s product specifications.
How much setup does it take?
Plan for a setup process rather than an out-of-the-box game experience. The official documentation identifies SuperStation One as a MiSTer-based device and notes that first-time users may need to learn MiSTer concepts and workflows. In its September 14, 2026 review, BGR reported that initial setup required an external PC and that moving files through folders and paths could be challenging for people less comfortable with computers. That is the reviewer’s hands-on assessment, not a guarantee that every owner will have the same experience.

The official documentation also warns that SD cards shipped with most units have partitioning problems that can cause boot failure after files are added. It recommends flashing the latest stock image or a clean MiSTer installation. Its guidance says the included 64GB card can be reused after backing up personal files and completely formatting the card as an exFAT simple volume. Because firmware and instructions can change, follow the current official SuperStation documentation for the applicable flashing and recovery steps rather than treating a particular fix as permanent. Do not format the card before safeguarding anything you want to keep.

The official user guide says a USB-C cable is included but a power supply is not. It recommends a USB-C Power Delivery charger providing 9V/3A; the guide says 5V or 12V may also work if the charger supports USB PD. Check a charger’s supported PD profiles rather than assuming that any USB-C charger will meet the recommendation. The official documentation has the current power guidance.

What should you know about controllers and the SuperDock?
Controllers
BGR reports that the integrated SNAC ports work with the PlayStation core and are not detected by other systems. For other cores, standard USB controllers are another option, subject to controller mapping and the relevant core’s setup. If your main reason for buying is to use a particular controller across multiple systems, check that workflow before counting the SNAC ports as a general-purpose feature.
SuperDock expansion
Retro Remake presents SuperDock as an expansion for disk support and additional I/O. BGR describes extra ports and a DVD-RW drive. In a June 7, 2026 review, Lon Seidman reported an NVMe slot and additional USB/SNAC interfaces, but said the optical drive was not yet functional in software at the time. That dated report does not establish the drive’s status on later firmware: check current software support before buying the Dock for disc use, and do not assume that a physically present drive can boot or play discs.

Is SuperStation One a worthwhile upgrade for an existing MiSTer owner?
If you already own a MiSTer setup, the case for switching is mainly about the integrated console-style form factor, its particular ports, and features such as Console Mode—not automatic gains in core coverage. BGR’s reviewer said they found little reason to upgrade from an existing MiSTer clone beyond Console Mode and the integrated design. That is one reviewer’s judgment; your own display connections, setup, and expansion needs may make the enclosure more valuable to you.
Who is it best suited to?
Consider SuperStation One if you want a single MiSTer-compatible device with PlayStation-oriented design and both digital and analog video options, and you are willing to configure software and organize game files. It is a less natural fit if you expect included games, a turnkey experience, or a guaranteed working feature set from every optional accessory.
- Display: Decide whether you need HDMI, CRT-oriented analog outputs, or both, then verify your display’s connectors and the exact cable requirements.
- Platform coverage: Identify the systems you care about and check the relevant MiSTer cores and setup expectations; compatibility depends on the core and configuration.
- Setup tolerance: Be prepared to work with SD-card images, file organization, updates, and MiSTer menus.
- Existing gear: Account for any MiSTer system, controllers, cables, or capture equipment you already own.
- Expansion: Decide whether you need SuperDock storage or extra I/O, and verify the current software status of any feature—especially its optical drive—before paying for it.
- Total cost: Check current availability and price, then add a suitable USB-C PD charger, storage, or display accessories only if you need them.
