Yes—Stake.us currently appears on the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s list of legal internet gaming websites. That listing is the clearest current answer to “Is Stake.us legal in Michigan, and can you play there?” The MGCB also announced a cease-and-desist letter to Stake.us in January 2024 over alleged unlicensed lottery or raffle activity, so check the state’s live listing before trying to play; regulator records and availability can change.

What Michigan’s current listing says about Stake.us

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) includes “Sweepstakes Limited, d/b/a Stake.us” on its Legal vs. Illegal Gaming page under legal internet gaming websites. Based on that current official page, Stake.us is listed as a legal internet gaming website in Michigan.

This answers the general status question, not whether a particular game, promotion, account, or transaction complies with every applicable law or term. Check the MGCB page again immediately before playing, since its operator information may change.

Why the 2024 cease-and-desist letter matters

On January 18, 2024, the MGCB announced that it had sent Stake.us a cease-and-desist letter. The agency described the alleged conduct as promoting an unlicensed online lottery and/or raffle to customers who bought products through the website. That announcement is historical enforcement context; it does not, by itself, establish Stake.us’s status today. The MGCB’s current listing is the more direct source for its present published status.

Read the original announcement, Michigan Gaming Control Board sends cease-and-desist letters to US, international internet gaming companies due to illegal operations, for the agency’s account of the action.

How Michigan regulates internet gaming

The MGCB says gambling is generally illegal in Michigan unless state law specifically authorizes it. Its overview describes the typical elements as consideration, a prize, and chance. Michigan’s Lawful Internet Gaming Act establishes a licensing framework for internet gaming and requires internet wagers to comply with the Act and its rules.

The statute is available in the MGCB-hosted copy of the Lawful Internet Gaming Act (2019 PA 152). A published operator listing is useful for checking general status, but it is not an individualized legal opinion about a particular account or game.

How to check before you play

  1. Open the MGCB’s Legal vs. Illegal Gaming page. Find the legal internet gaming websites list and look for “Sweepstakes Limited, d/b/a Stake.us.”
  2. Check Stake.us’s current terms and location rules. An operator’s terms can address where its services are available; do not assume access is permitted solely because a site loads.
  3. Recheck if the listing or your circumstances change. If you need an answer about a particular account, promotion, or legal issue, consult the relevant official terms or a Michigan attorney rather than treating a general listing as personal legal advice.
