Comedians and the advocacy group Stand Up for Stand Up say the replacement of SiriusXM’s Raw Comedy channel with Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio has reduced airtime for a much smaller pool of performers. The group’s figures show a sharp fall in the number of acts receiving spins, but they do not establish how much any individual comedian lost—or prove the channel change caused a specific financial outcome.
What changed at SiriusXM?
On April 21, 2026, SiriusXM announced that Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio would replace Raw Comedy. The company described it as a year-round, 24/7 stand-up destination curated and headlined by Maniscalco, with a flagship show featuring Pete Correale. Its announcement listed channel 99 for radios and app access. Channel numbers cited later have differed, so check SiriusXM’s current listing rather than relying on an older dial number.
Raw Comedy had been viewed by critics as a broader platform for working and emerging comics. The dispute is not simply whether SiriusXM still plays comedy: it is whether the new channel’s programming mix gives a narrower set of performers access to the airtime that critics say helped them reach listeners and earn royalties.
What do the airplay figures show?
Stand Up for Stand Up, a nonprofit advocating for working comedians, says it analyzed SiriusXM channel-spin data provided by XMPlaylist. Its figures report that the number of active acts fell from 812 in April 2026 to 275 in September 2026, even as total monthly spins remained in a range of 7,800 to 9,400. The organization also says more than 75% of plays went to the top 50 artists.

The nonprofit’s comparison of the top 100 acts in March and September 2026 found 25 performers on both lists; 75 acts on the March list were absent from September’s. These are reported play counts and act counts, not a complete account of each comedian’s income, contract, or other SiriusXM exposure. The underlying XMPlaylist dataset is not included in the public analysis, so the figures should be understood as the nonprofit’s analysis rather than an independently audited finding.
Stand Up for Stand Up interprets the figures as a narrowing of the pool receiving airtime, with plays concentrated among more marquee performers. Its analysis and continuing updates are available at Stand Up for Stand Up.

Why do comedians say the change matters?
Critics argue that fewer spins can mean less listener discovery as well as less royalty income. Stand Up for Stand Up focuses on what it calls the “middle class of comedy”; the affected performers should not all be assumed to be newcomers or unknown comics. The reporting includes both working comedians and recognizable names raising concerns.
Comedian Liz Miele told The Daily Beast, “There’s no safety net.” She described comedians who relied on royalty income to cover maternity leave or care for ill parents. Those examples reflect Miele’s account of the financial stakes, not independently verified individual loss calculations.

The nonprofit estimates that a SiriusXM satellite radio spin earns a comic approximately $15 in royalties. That is the organization’s estimate, not a confirmed universal rate or a guarantee that every play produces the same payment. Actual earnings depend on performer-specific contracts and accounting, which are not provided in the cited material.
What has SiriusXM said?
In a statement quoted by The Daily Beast on October 6, 2026, SiriusXM said: “The launch of Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio introduced a new creative direction and a regularly evolving programming mix for the channel.” The company also said: “SiriusXM continues to invest in comedians more than any other audio platform to deliver a wide range of comedy offerings across our channels.”

The response explains the company’s view of the channel’s direction and its broader comedy programming. It does not quantify the channel’s act-level distribution or directly affirm or dispute Stand Up for Stand Up’s reported counts. The positions therefore address different parts of the dispute:
| Question | Critics’ account | SiriusXM’s account |
|---|---|---|
| What should the channel do? | Raw Comedy offered a wider platform for working and emerging comedians. | The replacement has a distinct creative direction and a regularly evolving mix. |
| What happened to airplay? | The nonprofit’s XMPlaylist-based analysis reports fewer active acts and greater concentration among top performers. | The cited statement emphasizes comedy offerings across SiriusXM’s channels; it does not provide act-level counts for this channel. |
| What is the impact? | Comedians say reduced airtime can limit discovery and royalty income. | SiriusXM says it continues to invest in comedians, but the cited response does not quantify individual effects. |
Comedian Patton Oswalt addressed Maniscalco in a video, as quoted by The Daily Beast: “But 500 of them have been booted off of Sirius. You bought that channel. I know you didn’t mean to do anything bad; you can easily reverse this decision. Get those young comedians back on the Sirius channel.” That is Oswalt’s characterization of the change and his appeal to Maniscalco, not an independently established count of specific performers’ losses.

Does the evidence prove the channel is hurting individual comics?
It supports a narrower conclusion: according to Stand Up for Stand Up’s analysis, substantially fewer acts received spins by September 2026 than in April, while monthly total spins stayed within the reported range. That is evidence of a change in reported airplay distribution. It does not by itself establish how much a particular comedian’s income or audience declined, whether other SiriusXM channels offset the change, or that the channel was the cause of a specific financial hardship.
The dispute remains ongoing. Stand Up for Stand Up says it plans to update its figures after October closes. The Daily Beast reported on October 6, 2026, that Maniscalco’s team had been contacted for comment; the cited reporting does not include a direct public response from him. The company statement and the nonprofit’s data are described in The Daily Beast’s report.
