San Diego State wide receiver Bert Emanuel Jr. was upgraded from questionable to probable ahead of the Aztecs’ game against Texas State, according to Sports Illustrated’s account of the Thursday-night availability report. That designation does not confirm he will play, and the report did not disclose a specific injury or illness.
What does “probable” mean for Bert Emanuel?
It is the latest availability category reported for Emanuel before San Diego State’s game against Texas State. Sports Illustrated reported that he moved from questionable to probable on Thursday night ahead of the Aztecs’ Pac-12 opener. The report provides a status designation, not confirmation of his eventual participation.
Why was Emanuel listed as probable?
The availability report did not identify a specific injury or illness for Emanuel. No reason for his designation is established in the report, so it would be speculation to attribute it to a particular condition.

How did Emanuel move from quarterback to receiver?
San Diego State’s August 20, 2026 fall-camp report says Emanuel began transitioning from quarterback to wide receiver in the spring. The report quotes the wide receivers coach praising his speed and strength while emphasizing that he needed to keep developing his receiving technique and learn to read the different situations presented to a receiver. The report does not name the coach, so no name can be attributed to the comments based on that source.
