Samsung Money by SoFi may be worth considering if you already use a compatible Galaxy device and want a debit account managed through Samsung Pay or Samsung Wallet. It is less compelling if you need frequent outgoing wires or instant withdrawals, or if you are choosing it mainly for a high savings yield: its live APY is variable, and SoFi’s cited SoFi Plus savings rate is for a different account.
What is Samsung Money by SoFi?
Samsung Money by SoFi is a mobile-first cash-management account offered by SoFi Securities LLC, a FINRA-registered broker-dealer. It is accessed through Samsung Pay/Samsung Wallet and comes with a World Debit Mastercard. Samsung says enrollment is available through the Samsung Pay app; Samsung is not the bank or the account provider. SoFi’s product description and Samsung’s product disclosures explain the arrangement.
The debit card is issued by The Bancorp Bank under a Mastercard license. Cash in the account is swept to one or more program banks. FDIC coverage applies only after funds reach a program bank and remains subject to allocation, availability, eligibility, other deposits and FDIC limits. Samsung describes up to $1.5 million in potential coverage across six program banks; that is not automatic coverage of every balance from the moment money enters the account. Samsung also says Samsung Money and program-bank deposits are not covered by SIPC.

- Open the Samsung Pay app, select the Money tab and apply. Samsung says approval may take up to 24 hours.
- After approval, link an existing bank account and transfer funds.
- Once the account is set up and funded, the physical debit card is mailed to the address provided. Activate it in Samsung Pay.
Samsung introduced the service for U.S. customers and referenced Samsung Pay-enabled Galaxy S6 and later phones and select Galaxy wearables in its 2020 announcement. That launch-era list is not a definitive current compatibility guide; check Samsung Pay compatibility for your device before applying. Samsung’s announcement describes the original launch.

What fees should you expect?
SoFi’s fee schedule effective May 6, 2026 lists the following charges and no-charge services. The schedule can change, so review the current disclosure before making a decision. See SoFi’s Samsung Money fee sheet.

Samsung says its Allpoint partnership provides access to more than 55,000 ATMs without a fee from SoFi. That is Samsung’s published network figure, not a guarantee that every machine is available in every location. Out-of-network ATM operator fees are not reimbursed, and the usable network depends on location and the current participating ATM list. Samsung’s product page sets out the network and insurance disclosures.

What interest rate does Samsung Money pay?
The latest public Samsung Money rate sheet located lists 3.30% APY, effective December 23, 2025, based on a 3.25112% interest rate. SoFi says interest accrues daily and compounds monthly; the rate is variable, may change at any time, and fees may reduce earnings. SoFi also says the rate is calculated monthly based on the Federal Funds Rate. Because the published rate sheet is dated, 3.30% should not be treated as the live offer on October 9, 2026. The dated rate sheet gives its terms.

Does SoFi Plus increase the Samsung Money rate?
No: the cited SoFi Plus savings yield is for a separate SoFi Savings account, not Samsung Money. SoFi says a Samsung Money customer may pay $10 per month for SoFi Plus, but receiving the cited 4.50% APY on up to $20,000 requires closing Samsung Money and opening SoFi Checking and Savings. SoFi stated that savings rate was current as of September 23, 2026, and it is variable. Compare the live rates and account terms before switching; the Plus subscription alone does not move Samsung Money funds onto that savings rate. SoFi explains eligibility and the account change.
Are the rewards and security claims current?
Samsung’s 2020 launch announcement described Samsung Rewards enrollment and a one-time offer to exchange 1,000 points for $5 deposited into Samsung Money. Treat that as historical offer language, not an assured current reward.

The same launch announcement said the physical card would omit its number, expiration date and CVC, with those details available in the app behind biometric or PIN authentication, and described Samsung Knox security. Those are launch-era claims; consult current card and account materials for present-day protections and card design rather than assuming the original details still apply.

It may fit if
- You already own a currently compatible Galaxy device and value managing a debit account in Samsung Pay or Samsung Wallet.
- You want a cash-management account with a debit Mastercard and access to Allpoint ATMs.
- You rarely need outgoing domestic wires or instant withdrawals and have checked the live APY against alternatives.
Look elsewhere if
- You are considering it primarily for a particular APY but have not checked the live account rate; the public rate sheet is dated and rates are variable.
- You want SoFi Plus’s cited savings yield without changing accounts. That yield is tied to SoFi Savings, and SoFi says moving to it requires closing Samsung Money and opening SoFi Checking and Savings.
- You regularly send domestic wires or need instant withdrawals, where the listed charges can make the account costly.
- You need conventional bank-deposit insurance on the whole balance immediately. Samsung describes a sweep to program banks, with FDIC coverage only after funds reach those banks and subject to applicable limits and conditions.
For a fair comparison with your current checking or savings account, compare the live APYs, variable-rate terms, outgoing transfer and cash-deposit fees, ATM charges, account structure and any migration costs. Samsung Money’s main distinction is its Samsung Wallet integration; it is not automatically a better-value everyday account simply because its fee schedule has no monthly maintenance charge.
