Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace has not been confirmed as cleared for theatrical release. As of October 3, 2026, reports citing an unnamed source say the Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued the film an NOC after changes to its portrayal of India-China relations. But the makers had not confirmed the reported NOC, the film was still awaiting CBFC certification, and its reported November 13 release target was not official.

What has reportedly been cleared—and what has not?

Bollywood Hungama reported on October 2 that an unnamed source said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was satisfied with a revised cut of the film and had issued it a no-objection certificate (NOC) the previous week. Hindustan Times and The Indian Express repeated that account on October 3. Hindustan Times noted that the makers had not confirmed the development, and the coverage reviewed contained no official ministry document or on-record government confirmation. Bollywood Hungama’s original report is the source of the NOC claim; the subsequent reports are Hindustan Times and The Indian Express.

An NOC from the ministry is not the same as a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The October 2 report itself said the censor process was still pending, and October 3 coverage likewise said the film was awaiting CBFC certification. The reported ministry step therefore does not establish that the film is certified or ready for theatrical release.

What is claimed about the film’s changes?

The unnamed source cited by Bollywood Hungama described the revised version as “highly altered” and said it presents India-China relations in a positive light. Those are claims attributed to that source, not independently verified details about the revised cut. The reports do not specify what scenes or dialogue changed, or provide a detailed account of the ministry’s review.

Is November 13, 2026 the release date?

No. The November 13 date is a reported target, conditional on the CBFC process being completed in October, rather than a date announced by the makers. The Indian Express said it was not officially confirmed; Hindustan Times reported that the makers had yet to announce a revised release date. Until the makers announce a date and certification is completed, November 13 should be treated as tentative.

How the clearance reports developed

  • July 4, 2026: The production team said the film had not been submitted to the CBFC and denied reports that certification had been put on hold. That statement described the status at the time. India Today relayed the team’s statement.
  • September 15, 2026: India Today reported that the film still had not been submitted to the CBFC and that its producers were engaging with officials over concerns about its China-related narrative. This predates the October NOC report and does not resolve whether a later ministry step occurred. Read the September report.
  • October 2–3, 2026: Bollywood Hungama published the unnamed-source account of an NOC and possible November 13 target. Hindustan Times and The Indian Express relayed it the next day, while noting that CBFC certification remained pending and the date was unconfirmed.

What is Maatrubhumi about?

The film was announced as Battle of Galwan and is described in current coverage as based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese forces. It was later retitled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. Salman Khan stars, Apoorva Lakhia directs, and Chitrangda Singh also stars.
