Yes. Sacramento State is a large university by enrollment: its 2026 Fact Book counts 31,274 students in Fall 2025, and the university describes itself as the sixth-largest of the 22 California State University campuses. Its size also shows up in a 300-acre campus, more than 180 degree programs, and a broad range of student activities.
How many students attend Sacramento State?
Sacramento State’s 2026 Fact Book reports 31,274 students in Fall 2025: 28,619 undergraduates and 2,655 graduate students. That headcount is the clearest basis for calling it a large college. The university also reports a 25:1 student-faculty ratio and an average class size of 33; those institution-wide figures do not predict the size of every class or department. There is a small discrepancy in the university’s published Fall 2025 figures. A Sacramento State newsroom story published October 21, 2025, gives a completed fall census of 31,307 students—33 more than the Fact Book. The sources do not explain the difference, so the figures should not be combined or treated as interchangeable. That newsroom story also reports 6.7% enrollment growth over the prior 10 years. What is the Sacramento State campus like?
The main campus covers 300 acres, lies along the American River, and is six miles from the State Capitol, according to Sacramento State. Acreage describes the campus footprint, not how long a student will walk between particular classes or how crowded an area feels at a given time. Those details depend on schedules, buildings, and individual routines. Sacramento State’s About page
Does a large university offer a wide choice of programs?
Sacramento State lists more than 180 degree programs across eight colleges, indicating breadth across academic fields. A large program count does not tell you whether a particular course is offered when you need it, how competitive entry to a major may be, or what advising is like. Check the specific program, course availability, and advising resources that matter to you. Sacramento State’s program information

What does Sac State’s size mean for student life?
The university lists 317 student clubs and organizations and 21 intercollegiate NCAA Division I teams, alongside arts and recreation options. Those numbers indicate a wide menu of activities; they are not a measure of how many students participate or a guarantee that every student will find the same experience. Sacramento State’s descriptions of community and student opportunities are institutional statements, not a prediction of an individual student’s sense of connection. Sacramento State Campus Culture

What is Sacramento State’s broader impact?
Sacramento State’s 2026 Fact Book attributes $2.1 billion in annual economic impact in California to the 2025 CSU Economic Impact Report.
