Riyad Mahrez is a plausible match for the headline’s “five-time Premier League champion” clue, but the available reporting does not confirm that he has agreed to join a new club or link up with an ex-Arsenal player. Treat the claimed transfer as unverified, not as a completed deal.
Who does the headline appear to be about?
Mahrez is a reasonable possibility, not a confirmed identification. A CBS Sports report published on 19 July 2023 described him as a five-time Premier League champion. A separate TWTD.co.uk forum post surfaced in search results describing Mahrez as 35 and relaying a rumor that he could be close to joining Al-Shabab. Neither source establishes that Mahrez is definitely the unnamed player in the headline or that the rumor is the transfer the headline refers to.
Has a transfer agreement been confirmed?
No reliable current confirmation of the alleged agreement is established by the available sources. The forum post is not primary evidence, and it does not verify a completed deal. There is no official club announcement or reliable current report here confirming the purported destination, an agreement, or the claimed connection to an ex-Arsenal player.

What does the 2023 Al-Ahli deal tell us?
The CBS Sports report is historical context, not evidence of a later transfer. It said Manchester City had agreed a €35 million deal with Al-Ahli for Mahrez in 2023. That fee applies to the reported 2023 move and says nothing about the cost, status, or destination of any subsequent transfer.

Who is the “ex-Arsenal star”?
The headline does not name that person, and the available evidence does not identify them. A 2025 Goal.com article about Kyle Walker’s toughest opponents mentions former Arsenal player Samir Nasri, but it does not connect Nasri to this transfer claim. That unrelated reference is not grounds for naming him as the supposed teammate.

Mahrez fits part of the headline’s description, but the alleged new agreement and ex-Arsenal link remain unverified. Until a club announcement or reliable current reporting confirms the details, the headline should be read as a rumor rather than a confirmed transfer.
