Short answer: ReSkate says it can run offline without EA servers, but it requires a Steam copy of skate.; the available project documentation does not establish whether every setup avoids every EA-account authentication step. ReSkate is an unofficial fan project, and the sources do not establish that every use is legal, officially permitted, or guaranteed to avoid account consequences. For safety, note that crash reports are uploaded by default on a crash and that mods may run code.
Does ReSkate require an EA account?
There are separate requirements for ReSkate, the game copy, and EA’s official services. ReSkate’s README says its offline mode runs without EA servers and that users need their own Steam copy of skate.. It also says the launcher can download the supported game build with a Steam account. That is not enough to conclude that no EA-account step can arise in every installation or launch path.

EA’s requirements for its own product and EA app authentication should not be treated as proof that ReSkate’s offline mode uses EA servers. Conversely, ReSkate’s offline-mode claim does not override EA’s requirements for the official offering or establish that every ReSkate setup can avoid an EA account.

What safety and privacy risks does ReSkate disclose?
Crash reports
ReSkate’s README says that when the launcher or game crashes, it uploads a minidump and that session’s log to the project’s Backtrace account. The project says the log does not include a Steam password or login name. These are the project’s own disclosures, not an independent check of the logging or upload implementation.

To disable crash reporting, use either documented option:
- In the launcher, open Settings > Advanced and untick Send crash reports.
- Set the environment variable
RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0.
Mods and custom scripts
The project supports community mods and warns that custom scripts can run code. Treat each mod as a separate trust decision: install only mods from sources and authors you trust. The general warning is not evidence that any particular mod is malicious.

Account credentials
EA’s Skate gameplay rules tell players not to share account credentials and warn that sharing Skate account information risks account theft and loss of content. Keep Steam and EA passwords private, and obtain ReSkate from its project release source.
Is ReSkate legal to use?
The available sources do not support a categorical legal answer for every user, feature, or jurisdiction. ReSkate describes itself as a fan project unaffiliated with or endorsed by EA or Full Circle. Its README says ReSkate’s own code is licensed under GPL-3.0, but that license does not grant rights to EA’s game or assets; the README also distinguishes third-party libraries and fonts and game content from the project’s code.

EA’s User Agreement defines an “Unauthorized Third-Party Program” to include certain add-ons, mods, hacks, trainers, or cheats that EA believes facilitate cheating, modify or bypass the game experience without authorization, or collect information from EA services. The agreement also discusses anti-cheat monitoring and enforcement. That contractual language does not establish EA’s assessment of every ReSkate feature, prove that all use is illegal, or guarantee that users will or will not face account action. EA’s gameplay rules separately prohibit cheats and hacks.
“An Unauthorized Third-Party Program is a third-party program or file (such as an ‘add-on’, ‘mod’, ‘hack’, ‘trainer’, or ‘cheat’) that EA believes (i) enables or facilitates cheating of any type; (ii) allows users to bypass, modify or hack the game interface, environment, protections and/or experience in any way not expressly authorized by EA; or (iii) intercepts, ‘mines’, or otherwise collects information from or through the game.”

What should you check before using ReSkate?
- Confirm you have your own Steam copy of skate., as the project requires.
- Read the current ReSkate README and release information rather than assuming every setup has identical account or network requirements.
- Review the launcher’s crash-report setting, and disable reporting with the documented setting or environment variable if you do not want crash uploads.
- Install only mods you trust, especially when they include custom scripts.
- Keep Steam and EA credentials private; do not share account information to access the project.
