Yes. Nintendo has officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s current regional store listing gives the release date as November 5, 2026. The game is presented as the Nintendo 64 classic returning for a new generation, but Nintendo has not yet published a complete feature list, price, edition breakdown, performance details, or information about a release on the original Switch.
Is the Ocarina of Time remake real?
It is no longer just a rumor. Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 and describes it as the Nintendo 64 classic returning for a new generation and being reborn on Switch 2 in 2026.
That announcement establishes that Nintendo is preparing a new Switch 2 release. It does not, by itself, explain how extensively the game has been rebuilt. Nintendo has not published a full technical specification or a complete list of changes, so “remake” is a useful description of the project’s return but should not be treated as proof of particular visual, gameplay, or story changes.

Nintendo’s current regional product page lists November 5, 2026 as the release date. That is the date currently shown by Nintendo, rather than a date inferred from a leak or retailer listing.

Release timing can vary by region, and Nintendo’s reviewed pages do not establish a worldwide launch schedule, a preload date, or a specific release hour. Check the Nintendo store for your country before purchasing if you need to know when the download will unlock or when a physical version will be available.
The same qualification applies to price and format. Nintendo has not yet stated a universal price, confirmed the contents of different editions, or said whether a physical cartridge will be offered in every market.
What console do you need?
The announced game is labeled a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. On the information currently published by Nintendo, Switch 2 is the required platform.
| Platform | Current status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Confirmed | Nintendo’s product page identifies the game as a Switch 2 exclusive. |
| Original Nintendo Switch | Not confirmed | Nintendo has not announced an original-Switch version. |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | Not confirmed | No separate Lite release has been announced. |
| PC | Not confirmed | Nintendo has not announced a PC edition. |
| PlayStation or Xbox | Not confirmed | Nintendo has not announced versions for either platform family. |
“Not confirmed” does not mean that another version is impossible; it means Nintendo’s announced information does not support treating one as planned. Until Nintendo says otherwise, readers should not buy the game expecting it to run on an original Switch, Switch Lite, computer, PlayStation, or Xbox.
What is new in the Switch 2 version?
A microphone-based ocarina interaction
Nintendo has documented one new interaction. Within range of the Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone, you can either play or simply hum one of Link’s learned ocarina melodies. Link then performs that song in the game.

This is more specific than a general claim that the remake “uses the microphone.” The announced function is tied to melodies Link has learned, and it requires the console’s built-in microphone to hear the player. Nintendo has not stated whether every melody from the original game is supported, whether background noise affects recognition, or whether other microphone features exist.
What Nintendo has not confirmed
- Final graphics resolution, frame rate, or display modes.
- Changes to dungeons, controls, combat, puzzles, story, or progression.
- Additional songs, quests, characters, or regions.
- Save-transfer support or compatibility with an earlier version.
- Accessibility options, language list, download size, or storage requirements.
- Physical-cartridge availability in every region.
- Price, special editions, preorder bonuses, or included accessories.
Those details should be treated as open questions rather than assumed features. A modernized release may eventually receive more information, but Nintendo’s announcement does not establish what has changed beyond the confirmed Switch 2 presentation and microphone interaction.
Is this a remake, remaster, or enhanced port?
Nintendo’s public language is that the Nintendo 64 classic returns for a new generation and is reborn on Nintendo Switch 2. The company’s announcement does not provide a technical definition such as “full remake,” “remaster,” or “enhanced port.”
The practical distinction matters. A full remake usually rebuilds assets, environments, and systems for new hardware. A remaster generally preserves the original game while improving presentation or performance. An enhanced port can add selected platform features without reconstructing the entire game. Without Nintendo’s development details, it is not possible to classify the project more precisely.
For buyers, the safest description is “a new Switch 2 release of Ocarina of Time that Nintendo presents as a reborn version.” Expect Nintendo to clarify the scope through later product information, demonstrations, or technical specifications.

Why the announcement is tied to Zelda’s 40th anniversary
Nintendo’s official Zelda news index records a September 8, 2026 Direct announcement for the series’ 40th anniversary, along with related anniversary products. The Ocarina of Time announcement appears in that anniversary context.

How the microphone feature is expected to work
- Use a Switch 2 system. The announced feature is tied to the console’s built-in microphone, not to an unspecified phone or third-party accessory.
- Learn an ocarina melody in the game. Nintendo describes the interaction as working with one of Link’s learned melodies.
- Stay within microphone range. The system must be able to hear you through its built-in microphone.
- Play or hum the melody. Nintendo says either approach can be used.
- Let the game recognize the input. Link then performs the song in the game.
Nintendo has not published a recognition guide, supported-language list, noise tolerance, or troubleshooting instructions. If recognition is sensitive, the likely first checks will be microphone access, distance, room noise, and whether the melody has already been learned, but those troubleshooting steps are practical precautions rather than Nintendo-confirmed requirements.
What should original-game players expect?
The core identity remains Ocarina of Time
The project is based on the critically acclaimed Nintendo 64 classic, so the announced subject is the same Ocarina of Time adventure rather than a new Zelda story. Nintendo has not said that the story, characters, or world structure are being replaced.
Do not assume every modern feature
Switch 2 hardware makes new presentation and control options possible, but Nintendo has not promised specific upgrades such as a performance mode, redesigned menus, expanded camera controls, motion aiming, surround-audio options, or modern save conveniences. Those features may be announced later, but they are not part of the confirmed information today.

Do not assume an original-Switch fallback
Because Nintendo labels the release a Switch 2 exclusive, owners of the original Switch should plan on needing the newer console unless Nintendo changes the platform announcement. A Switch Lite owner should likewise wait for an explicit compatibility statement rather than assuming that the game will run on the older handheld hardware.

How to decide whether to wait or prepare now
If you already own a Switch 2
- Bookmark the Nintendo product page for your region and recheck the November 5, 2026 date as launch approaches.
- Wait for Nintendo to publish price, format, storage, and accessibility details before choosing physical or digital.
- If the microphone interaction interests you, test where the console’s built-in microphone is located and how your play area affects voice pickup once Nintendo publishes instructions.
If you own only the original Switch
- Do not preorder based on assumptions that the game will be cross-generation.
- Budget for Switch 2 hardware only if Nintendo’s exclusive-platform policy remains unchanged and the game is important to you.
- Check for an updated compatibility announcement before making a console purchase.
If you are choosing between physical and digital
There is no confirmed format comparison yet. Wait for Nintendo’s regional listing to show whether a cartridge, download code, digital edition, or multiple formats are offered where you live. The same listing should be used to verify the local price and stock status.

Before the announcement, Ocarina of Time remake discussions were speculative. Nintendo’s announcement changes the status of the project itself: the game is officially announced for Switch 2, and a November 5, 2026 date appears on Nintendo’s regional store page.
Rumors can still circulate about graphics, gameplay changes, the developer, physical editions, or other platforms. None of those details should be presented as fact unless Nintendo publishes them. The confirmed microphone interaction is the clearest example of why that distinction matters: it is documented by Nintendo, while many other commonly discussed features are not.
