Nvidia was nearing a $6 trillion market capitalization after returning to a record share price, according to Bloomberg’s October 6, 2026 report. That is a dated market snapshot—not confirmation that the company crossed the milestone. The business case behind the rally is clearer: Nvidia reported rapid growth in its latest quarter and issued a higher revenue outlook, while its valuation still depends on expectations about future AI demand.
What does “near $6 trillion” mean?
Bloomberg described Nvidia as on the verge of becoming the first company to reach a $6 trillion market value. The report also said its share price had returned to a record. The available report does not establish an exact share price, market-cap figure, or timestamp, so the milestone should be understood as Bloomberg’s market framing rather than a precise, independently confirmed snapshot. Market capitalization is the market price of a company’s shares multiplied by its shares outstanding. It is not the company’s revenue, cash balance, or an amount Nvidia has received. A record share price and a near-record market capitalization are related, but they are not interchangeable: share count also affects market value.

Latest results show concentrated AI-driven growth
For the quarter ended July 26, 2026, Nvidia reported $96.221 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year and 18% sequentially. Data Center generated $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year and 18% sequentially, making it the dominant reported revenue engine. Nvidia also reported GAAP net income of $59.688 billion and diluted GAAP earnings per share of $2.46. These are company-reported results. Nvidia’s Q2 fiscal 2027 results

Guidance points to continued growth, with a geographic qualification
Nvidia forecast Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. The company said that outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China. Guidance is management’s forecast, not a guaranteed result; the China assumption is part of the stated outlook, not a claim that Nvidia has no business in China at all.
In its earnings release, CEO Jensen Huang said, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue,” and described the AI infrastructure buildout as being “at full steam.” Those remarks express management’s view of the opportunity. The reported figures show current growth; they do not by themselves establish how long that growth will last or what returns customers will earn from AI investments.

Investor rotation and interest-rate concerns add market context
Bloomberg attributed the renewed rally partly to investors rotating into AI chipmakers and large technology stocks amid rate-hike fears. The report quoted Larry Tentarelli of Blue Chip Daily describing megacap technology shares as relatively resistant to rate hikes. That is an explanation of investor behavior, not proof that Nvidia’s shares are insulated from higher rates or market volatility.

What does the expanded buyback actually mean?
In September 2026, Nvidia’s board authorized an additional $150 billion for share repurchases, bringing the stated authorization to $235 billion. The company said the authorization was intended to be executed through the fiscal year ending January 30, 2028. An authorization permits repurchases; it does not mean Nvidia has already spent the full amount. Associated Press coverage of the expanded authorization

- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
The quarter-end figures are a separate measure. Nvidia reported that it returned approximately $26.0 billion to shareholders through repurchases and dividends during Q2 fiscal 2027, and that approximately $99.0 billion remained under repurchase authorization on July 26, 2026. That remaining amount was reported at quarter end; it should not be confused with the later $235 billion total authorization.
Repurchases can reduce the number of shares outstanding and return capital to shareholders, but the board’s authorization does not establish how many shares will be bought, at what prices, or that buybacks caused the record share price. Bloomberg presented the buyback alongside Nvidia’s outlook and investor rotation as context for the move.

What could challenge the growth story?
AI spending must produce durable returns
The central valuation question is whether the vast investments in AI infrastructure will generate enough sustained revenue and productivity to justify their cost. AP coverage of Nvidia’s results noted skepticism about whether AI will ultimately justify the trillions being spent to develop it. Strong chip sales demonstrate customer demand today; they do not settle the question of customers’ long-term returns or their ability to keep funding infrastructure.
Supply and data-center construction are execution risks
Nvidia reported $279 billion in supply and capacity commitments as of July 26, 2026. That figure indicates the scale of commitments tied to meeting demand, but it also makes delivery and infrastructure execution important. Nvidia’s SEC filing identifies land, power, facilities, capital, and the performance of customers or partners as factors that can affect data-center deployment and financial performance. Growth expectations leave little room for disappointment
A company can post exceptional results and still face a share-price decline if investors had expected even more, if future guidance weakens, or if the market reassesses the price it is willing to pay for growth. Nvidia’s near-$6 trillion valuation framing therefore reflects expectations as much as current earnings. The October report did not provide a verified timestamped market value, and its milestone language should not be read as a guarantee that Nvidia would reach $6 trillion.
Quick Recap
How to read the headline
- What is reported: Bloomberg said Nvidia had returned to a record share price and was approaching a $6 trillion market capitalization on October 6, 2026.
- What the company reported: Q2 fiscal 2027 revenue and Data Center revenue grew sharply, and management forecast $108.0 billion in Q3 revenue, with a stated China compute-revenue assumption.
- What the buyback says: The board expanded a repurchase authorization; authorization is not the same as completed purchases.
- What remains uncertain: The exact market snapshot, the durability and returns of AI spending, and the ability of Nvidia and its customers to meet infrastructure and funding demands.
