Is Norton antivirus worth it? Norton 360 earned top scores in AV-TEST’s 2026 Windows evaluations, but whether it is a good buy depends on the plan, the devices you need to cover, and the renewal price. “Norton Antivirus” can mean the basic Norton AntiVirus Plus subscription or the broader Norton 360 family; the latter adds features that vary by tier and market.
What this review covers
This review focuses on Norton’s consumer subscriptions, not a single product with one fixed feature set. Norton describes AntiVirus Plus as foundational scam and malware protection. Norton 360 plans add features such as Secure VPN and Dark Web Monitoring, with device limits and other inclusions differing by plan and geography. Check the specific plan’s current comparison before buying: Norton’s U.S. product lineup and product information.
The distinction matters when evaluating value. A buyer who wants core malware and scam protection may not need the extras in a 360 subscription; someone seeking a VPN or other bundled services should verify that the chosen tier includes them in their country.

How Norton performed in independent testing
AV-TEST’s August 2026 manufacturer history records Norton 360 versions 26.6 and 26.7 with scores of 6 for Protection, 6 for Performance, and 6 for Usability. Those are the lab’s category scores for the identified versions, not a guarantee of identical results on every device or future release. AV-TEST Norton manufacturer results.

In its June 2026 Windows 11 results, AV-TEST likewise gave Norton 360 versions 26.4 and 26.5 scores of 6/6/6 across those categories. AV-TEST says it evaluated 16 home-user security products using default settings during May and June 2026; its maximum across the three categories is 18 points, and products scoring at least 17.5 receive its “TOP PRODUCT” award. These results describe Norton 360 on Windows in specific test rounds, not AntiVirus Plus or every operating system. AV-TEST Windows home-user results.
The results are strong independent evidence for the tested Norton 360 versions and Windows setup. They do not establish how every plan performs, settle whether bundled features are useful to you, or replace checking compatibility with your devices.

Which Norton plan fits your needs?
Norton’s lineup is best compared by what protection and extras you actually need, rather than by assuming every subscription includes the same toolkit.

How much does Norton cost?
There is no single dependable price for every Norton plan or country. Promotions, trial availability, device limits, and renewal amounts can change, so compare the checkout terms for the exact plan and market rather than relying on a search-result offer. For the United States, Norton says a trial requires a payment method and that the subscription is charged when the trial ends unless it is canceled beforehand. Norton also says annual subscribers receive an email with the renewal price in advance. Check the current U.S. terms on the relevant Norton product page.
Before entering payment details, compare the introductory term with the renewal term and note how many devices the price covers. A discounted first term alone does not show whether the subscription remains good value after renewal.

Who should consider Norton?
It may suit you if
- You want a mainstream consumer security subscription and value the strong AV-TEST scores recorded for Norton 360 on Windows in 2026.
- You need a specific bundle feature and have confirmed that it is included in your chosen plan and region.
- You are comfortable checking the trial end date, device limit, and renewal amount before subscribing.
Look carefully at the fit if
- You only want basic antivirus protection and would not use the extras in a higher Norton 360 tier.
- You need coverage for platforms other than Windows; the cited AV-TEST results do not establish performance on those systems.
- You are choosing based on an introductory offer without comparing the renewal price or confirming the current feature list.
A secondary review by Tom’s Guide describes Norton 360 Standard as including malware protection, a VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, and cloud backup, and cites February 2026 AV-TEST results. Treat that as market-specific context rather than a universal description of Norton 360 Standard; the official comparison for your country and tier is more relevant to your purchase. Norton 360 has excellent documented Windows lab results for the tested 2026 versions, but that is only one part of a buying decision. Norton is most compelling when a specific 360 tier’s extras are useful to you and its renewal terms make sense. If you need only foundational protection, compare AntiVirus Plus against the bundle before paying for features you will not use.
