No. LG is not a Samsung brand, and Samsung does not own LG Electronics. The companies have separate corporate histories: LG Electronics traces its roots to Goldstar, while Samsung Electronics is a separately named company within the broader Samsung Group.
Are LG and Samsung the same company?
No. They are separate companies, not different brands under one owner. LG Electronics’ official history says its predecessor, Goldstar, was established in 1958 and that the company adopted the LG Electronics name in 1995. Samsung Electronics’ business report identifies it as a separate company established in 1969.

Both companies sell consumer electronics, including products for home entertainment, but overlapping product categories do not mean one owns the other. LG’s corporate information lists home appliances and home entertainment among its business areas.

LG Corp. and LG Electronics are distinct entities. LG Electronics’ consolidated financial statements report that LG Corp. owned 35.3% of LG Electronics’ ordinary shares, excluding preferred shares, as of December 31, 2025. That dated shareholding figure identifies LG Corp.—not Samsung—as a significant shareholder; it should not be treated as an undated current percentage.

How Samsung Electronics relates to Samsung Group
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is not synonymous with Samsung Group. Samsung’s Global Strategy Group explains that Samsung Group is not a legal entity and that each company within it is an independent legal entity. Samsung Electronics’ business report says the company was established in 1969 as Samsung Electronics Industry Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in 1984.
