Recent reports suggest Kobbie Mainoo’s September issue is not serious, but Manchester United have not publicly disclosed a diagnosis or confirmed when he will return. A report also raised load management as a possible reason for his return from England duty; that explanation has not been confirmed by the club.
How serious is Kobbie Mainoo’s current issue?
Reporting on September 30 and October 2, 2026, described the issue as likely not serious. FourFourTwo reported that it understood Mainoo had not suffered a serious injury. RotoWire’s October 2 update likewise said he was not believed to have a considerable injury, citing The Standard’s Oli Gent.
This is attributed reporting, not a medical diagnosis or a guarantee that Mainoo will be available for Manchester United’s next match.

No. The July problem was a separate episode and does not establish the cause or severity of the September issue. On July 19, 2026, The Standard reported England manager Thomas Tuchel’s explanation that Mainoo had a sharp pain in his back during the final training session before England’s World Cup bronze-final match and was not ready to play.

RotoWire also noted that Mainoo had scored one goal and created seven chances across his four Manchester United league matches before the September withdrawal. Those figures describe his recent form, not his medical condition.
