No confirmed ownership change for Hogwarts Legacy 2 is established. Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) announced a conditional agreement in December 2025 for Netflix to acquire Warner Bros., but Netflix said in February 2026 that it would not raise its offer after WBD’s board found Paramount Skydance’s proposal superior. The available company statements do not establish who ultimately acquired Warner Bros. as of October 7, 2026, and they do not announce a change to the sequel’s ownership, development, or creative direction.
What happened to the Netflix–Warner Bros. deal?
Netflix announced a conditional agreement in December 2025
On December 5, 2025, Netflix and WBD announced a definitive agreement for Netflix to acquire Warner Bros., including its film and television studios, HBO Max, and HBO. The companies said a closing would follow the planned separation of Discovery Global and would depend on regulatory approvals, WBD shareholder approval, and other customary conditions. Netflix described the proposed transaction as having an approximately $82.7 billion enterprise value and $72.0 billion equity value. Netflix later declined to match Paramount Skydance
On February 26, 2026, Netflix said it would not raise its offer after WBD’s board determined that Paramount Skydance’s latest proposal was superior under the existing agreement. The ultimate owner is not established here
The cited announcements do not establish who ultimately acquired Warner Bros. by October 7, 2026. It would therefore be inaccurate to state that Netflix owns Warner Bros. or Hogwarts Legacy 2 on the basis of the December announcement alone. An announced agreement and a completed ownership transfer are different events.

What this means for Hogwarts Legacy 2
The two company statements discuss the proposed corporate transaction and Netflix’s decision not to raise its offer. They do not name Hogwarts Legacy 2 or confirm any game-specific ownership, development, format, or creative-direction change. Even if Warner Bros.’ ownership changes, that fact alone would not show that a particular game’s plans have changed.

Are live-service features confirmed?
No. A December 2025 report described fan concern that the sequel might adopt live-service elements; it did not confirm that the game would use that format.
