The current City of Ashtabula information reviewed describes curbside recycling in Wards 1 and 2, but does not announce a start date for service across the entire city. If you have seen a claim that full-city recycling is about to begin, confirm it with the Sanitation Department before relying on a date or assuming your address is covered.
When does full-city recycling start in Ashtabula?
No citywide start date is listed on the City’s current Sanitation or Curbside Recycling pages. The curbside page specifically describes service for Wards 1 and 2. The City’s sanitation page points residents to that program information; neither page establishes that all neighborhoods are now covered.
An Ashtabula County Solid Waste Management District plan described a non-subscription curbside program that served half the population in 2014, with a full rollout planned by 2015. That is historical planning information, not confirmation of a new expansion or today’s service boundaries. Check directly with the City for any newer announcement.

The published City program page names Wards 1 and 2. The reviewed official material does not provide a current address-level eligibility map or confirm service in other wards. If you are unsure whether your address qualifies, contact the Sanitation Department at sanitation@cityofashtabula.com or (440) 993-8101 before putting a cart out or planning around a claimed expansion.

How does the current curbside service work?
For residences in the area described on the City page, the City provides a 64-gallon, two-wheeled recycling cart in addition to rubbish collection. Collection is scheduled every other Friday; use the published route schedule, since pickup timing may shift for a sanitation holiday.
- Put the cart out when it is full, following the City’s placement, distance, and clearance instructions.
- Place accepted recyclables loose in the cart, with its opening facing the street.
- Do not use the recycling cart for extra rubbish.
What goes in the blue recycling cart?
The City describes its curbside program as single-stream: accepted items go together loose, not in bags. Its page says rigid consumer containers marked with recycling numbers 1–7 can be included. It excludes plastic bags, shrink wrap, Styrofoam, toys, and motor-oil and antifreeze containers. Lightly rinse food containers; the City says labels and caps do not need to be removed.

Follow the City’s current accepted-material list and the graphics on your cart. The municipal code says items must be placed loose and notes that the City’s acceptable-material list can change. A material being recyclable in general does not necessarily mean it is accepted in this local collection.
Where can I recycle without curbside pickup?
The City says its recycling center at the transfer station is open to everyone, regardless of residency. It also directs residents without curbside recycling to Ashtabula County drop-off sites. Check the container graphics at a drop-off site for the District’s accepted-item rules; do not assume those rules match the City curbside list.

The reviewed City material does not give a verified citywide launch schedule or one current map showing eligibility by address. For the latest coverage and any expansion date, contact the Sanitation Department rather than assuming a historical rollout plan applies today.
