DreamHost can be a good choice for a blog, especially if you want WordPress hosting and are comfortable choosing between a lower-cost general hosting plan and a more managed WordPress service. Web Hosting Launch is the budget-oriented starting point; DreamPress costs more but includes WordPress-focused features such as staging, migration, backups, and specialist support. Compare the renewal price and the amount due at checkout—not just the advertised monthly equivalent—before choosing.
Which DreamHost plan is best for a WordPress blog?
For a new or straightforward blog where price matters most, begin with Web Hosting Launch. It supports WordPress but leaves more site-management work to you. DreamPress 1 is the more relevant comparison if you want a single WordPress site with provider-managed tools and WordPress-focused support.
| Plan | Best fit | Sites, storage, and visits | Listed annual price | Notable features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Web Hosting Launch | A new or simple blog, or someone prioritizing a lower starting price | 25 websites; 25 GB NVMe SSD; DreamHost estimates 40,000 monthly visits | $2.89/month for the first year; renews at $10.99/month after one year | Daily automated backups, unmetered bandwidth, and free SSL |
| DreamPress 1 | One WordPress site where managed features are worth the higher price | 1 website; 15 GB NVMe SSD; 40,000 monthly visits listed | $14.99/month for the first year; renews at $19.99/month after one year | 14-day backup retention, migration, staging, CDN, failover protection, and 24/7 WordPress expert support |
These are DreamHost’s annual plan listings checked for 2026; features and prices can change. Annual and multi-year prices are monthly equivalents paid upfront, so the checkout total is higher than one month’s displayed equivalent, and taxes may apply. DreamHost says annual and multi-year Web Hosting plans include a one-year domain registration; domain renewal is separate. Is DreamPress worth the extra cost?
DreamPress 1 costs more than Launch both in its first year and at renewal. Its value depends on whether the included management and tools solve problems you would otherwise handle yourself or pay someone else to handle. It is designed for one site; DreamPress’s higher tiers allow more sites and storage, with DreamHost’s help documentation describing larger tiers for agencies and multi-site users.
- Consider DreamPress if you want staging, migration assistance, managed backup tools, CDN, failover protection, and access to WordPress-focused support.
- Consider Web Hosting Launch if you are comfortable managing WordPress and want to start with a lower-priced general hosting plan.
DreamHost’s performance page reports results from its own August 2025 tests: up to 6× faster site response, 20–30% faster content display, and up to 40% faster full interactivity. These are vendor-reported comparative results, not an independent benchmark or a promise about a particular blog’s speed. Read the provider’s DreamPress information for its claims and explanation.

What does managing WordPress yourself involve?
DreamHost offers WordPress on general hosting plans as well as DreamPress. With WordPress.org on a general hosting plan, DreamHost supplies the hosting environment, but you remain responsible for your site and its components—including updates, security, themes, plugins, and database management. DreamPress is the managed WordPress option and installs WordPress automatically. DreamHost’s WordPress overview explains its plan options and the distinction between WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

DreamPress adds tools and support that can reduce some of that work, but it does not remove the need to make decisions about your content, site changes, and backups.

What should you know about DreamPress staging and backups?
Staging lets you test changes away from the live site, but DreamHost documents several limits that matter before you rely on it:
- Staging requires at least 5 GB of free space.
- Staging files are not included in daily backups of the live site.
- Publishing a staging site can overwrite newer changes made on the live site.
DreamPress 1 lists 14-day backup retention. DreamHost’s hosting-plan FAQ says long-term backups are not included in hosting plans. If your blog needs a longer recovery history, plan for a separate backup approach rather than treating the hosting plan as an archival system. Details are in the DreamPress documentation and hosting plan FAQs.
Rank #4
What limitations could make DreamHost a poor fit?
DreamHost uses its own control panel rather than cPanel. Its hosting FAQ also says root access is unavailable on Web Hosting/Shared, Managed VPS, and DreamPress. Those constraints matter if you depend on cPanel workflows, need server-level control, or expect to retain backups for longer than the plan provides. See DreamHost’s hosting plan FAQs.
How to choose between Launch and DreamPress
- Decide how many sites you need. Launch lists 25 websites; DreamPress 1 is for one WordPress site.
- Set your real budget. Compare first-year and renewal rates, then confirm the prepaid checkout total and any applicable taxes.
- Choose your maintenance level. If you will manage WordPress updates and related site upkeep yourself, general Web Hosting may suit you. If managed WordPress tools and specialist support matter, assess DreamPress.
- Check storage, traffic, and backup needs. Compare the listed allowances with your expected site requirements, and make a separate plan for longer-term backups if needed.
- Review the live plan details before paying. Prices, inclusions, and terms can change; DreamHost’s visit estimates are not a hard capacity guarantee.
