For newcomers, the Age of Hatred Collection is a compelling way to get the complete Diablo IV package on Nintendo Switch 2—provided you have reliable internet and are comfortable with performance and visual compromises. Nintendo lists the US digital version at a regular price of $69.99. The value is less clear if you already own the base game or expansions on another platform and mainly want a portable way to continue playing.

What do you get in the Age of Hatred Collection?

The bundle includes Diablo IV, the Vessel of Hatred expansion, and Lord of Hatred. Blizzard positions the collection as the best option for players new to the game; buying Lord of Hatred as an expansion upgrade instead requires the base game. The collection is therefore the simplest complete entry point, while current owners should compare the upgrade cost against buying the full Switch 2 bundle.

Nintendo’s UK listing describes multiple campaigns and eight playable classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer, Spiritborn, and Warlock. Vessel of Hatred adds the Spiritborn class and Nahantu region; Lord of Hatred takes the story to the Isles of Skovos. Nintendo’s US listing gives a regular digital price of $69.99; prices and discounts can vary by region and over time.

How does Diablo IV perform on Switch 2?

The game offers two graphics modes. The figures are targets published in Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ, not a promise that every scene will hold a fixed frame rate.

Mode Resolution target Frame-rate target Important detail
Quality 1440p docked; 1080p handheld 30 fps Higher resolution target, with a lower frame-rate target.
Performance 1080p docked and handheld 40 fps Docked mode requires a compatible display with a refresh rate of at least 120Hz.

In its review, Nintendo Life preferred Performance mode, particularly in handheld play, and said Quality mode had more trouble consistently reaching its target. The reviewer also noted simplified enemy animations when many enemies were on screen and occasional performance hiccups. Nintendo Everything separately praised the port, especially handheld play. These are reviewers’ observations, not a guarantee of identical results for every player or scene.

Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection – Nintendo Switch 2 [Code in a Box]

  • Embark on a sweeping dark fantasy campaign where no soul is safe.
  • Master eight distinct classes, including the all-new Paladin and Warlock.
  • Become the apex predator of the jungles of Nahantu.

Blizzard game director Brent Gibson offered a more positive assessment in a BlizzCon press Q&A reported by TechRadar: “The concessions we had to make are barely noticeable.” He also said, “It’s fluid. It’s easily readable.” Those are Gibson’s opinions about the port, not independent performance measurements. If a consistent 60 fps or visual parity with more powerful consoles is essential to you, this version may disappoint.

Does the Switch 2 version need an internet connection?

Yes. Nintendo says an internet connection and Battle.net account are required, and that a persistent connection is needed to play. A Nintendo Life reviewer reported being returned to the home screen after losing connection. That makes the game a poor fit for travel or other play settings where you cannot depend on a connection.

Do you need Nintendo Switch Online to play?

No—not for all play. Nintendo’s listing says some online features require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. According to Nintendo Life’s report of Blizzard’s FAQ, the campaign and side quests, open-world activities, couch co-op, The Tower and leaderboards, and seasonal ranks and content are available without that membership. Internet access and a Battle.net account are still required.

The FAQ report lists online parties, trading, clans, PvP, and encountering other players in the open world among the features restricted without Switch Online. So the membership matters if you want those social or competitive features, but it is not a blanket requirement for playing the game.

Can you transfer a Diablo IV character to Switch 2?

Nintendo lists cross-progression and cross-play, and Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ, as summarized by Nintendo Life, says existing players can continue through cross-progression after linking a Battle.net account. That makes the Switch 2 edition more useful if you want to pick up an existing character on a handheld.

Do not assume every purchase or paid currency moves between platforms: Nintendo Everything’s review specifically notes that Platinum currency does not transfer.

Who should buy the collection?

  • Buy it if you are new to Diablo IV: the bundle includes the base game and both expansions, making it the most straightforward way into the full package on Switch 2.
  • Consider it if handheld access matters: the Switch 2 edition lets you continue playing on a portable console, and reviewers have praised the handheld experience.
  • Think twice if you already own much of the game: compare the separate expansion upgrade price with the cost of the complete collection, especially if portable access is not a priority.
  • Skip it if your connection is unreliable: persistent internet access is required, which can undermine the point of playing on a portable system.
  • Set expectations around performance: the published options target 30 fps in Quality mode or 40 fps in Performance mode, rather than 60 fps.
  • Check which multiplayer features you want: solo and several listed activities do not require Switch Online, but some social and competitive features do.
