No announced departure: Bungie’s June 9, 2026 Update 9.7.0 support guide lists the Dreaming City as an available destination. Bungie has not announced a date for removing it, but has also not guaranteed that it will remain indefinitely. Its long-term status is unspecified.

Is the Dreaming City being vaulted?

As of Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide, the Dreaming City is listed among Destiny 2’s available destinations. Bungie says content available before or added in that update would remain available on and after June 9, 2026. That establishes its availability at the update, not a permanent promise about the future.

No reviewed Bungie announcement gives a Dreaming City removal date or identifies it as a destination slated for vaulting. Claims that it is definitely leaving—or guaranteed to stay forever—go beyond what Bungie has said.

Why vaulting history can cause confusion

The Destiny Content Vault (DCV) is Bungie’s system for cycling selected destinations and activities out of Destiny 2. Bungie says vaulted content may return, and its current Destiny Content Vault help page distinguishes between expansions, which stopped being vaulted in August 2022, and seasonal content, which continues to move into the vault when a new expansion launches.

When Bungie first explained the DCV in 2020, it cited the scale and complexity of the game as obstacles to updating, testing, and maintaining it. The studio described vaulting as a way to manage that scale while potentially bringing older content back later. The policy covered selected content; it did not promise that any particular destination would always remain in the game. Bungie’s explanation of the DCV says content put into the vault may return, altered if needed to fit the game’s later state.

What Bungie previously decided about the Dreaming City

In its 2021 Destiny Content Vault update, Bungie said the Forsaken campaign and Tangled Shore would enter the DCV as The Witch Queen approached, while the Dreaming City destination would remain available. That is relevant history, but it describes that specific transition. It is not a standing guarantee against a future change.

What changed with Update 9.7.0 in 2026

Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 guide says planned live-service content updates ended with the update released June 9, 2026. Bungie left open the possibility of hotfixes for game health and stability. The guide’s destination list includes the Dreaming City, so the end of planned content updates is not itself an announcement that this destination was removed.

Bungie’s Monument of Triumph launch announcement confirms that the update went live and describes changes to navigation, destinations, patrols, activities, and rewards. For the specific question of whether the Dreaming City is listed as available, the support guide is the more direct source.

Does Bungie’s restoration work mean the Dreaming City is at risk?

Not on the information Bungie has published. In its later Next Chapter announcement, Bungie said it had begun work to bring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids back. The studio described technical work needed to update elements such as lighting, encounters, and combatants, and said it would share more details in the months ahead.

The announcement does not name the Dreaming City as either a future vault target or a restoration target, and it gives no destination-specific schedule. The broad restoration plan therefore does not establish a change to the Dreaming City’s status.

How to read future claims about its status

  • Official confirmation: A Bungie announcement or current support page that specifically identifies the Dreaming City and states a change would establish more than a rumor or prediction.
  • Current availability: The June 9, 2026 support guide lists the destination as available; that is a dated status, not an indefinite guarantee.
  • Historical decisions: Bungie’s 2021 decision to retain the Dreaming City applied to that vaulting transition, not every future content decision.
  • General plans: Statements about vaulting or restoring content broadly do not confirm what will happen to this particular destination unless Bungie names it.
