Short answer: Community Day Zoroark is still a poor general-purpose choice for Great and Ultra League PvP. Sucker Punch gives it harder-hitting fast-move pressure and improves some matchups, but Zoroark’s very low bulk and slower charge-move pacing hold it back. The move is a situational option, not a fix for the Pokémon’s core weaknesses.
How to get Sucker Punch on Zoroark
Pokémon GO’s October 2026 Community Day featuring Zorua runs on Saturday, October 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Evolve Zorua during those hours or by 9:00 p.m. local time—four hours after the event ends—to get a Zoroark that knows the Fast Attack Sucker Punch. The official event announcement gives the same evolution window. The optional Special Research ticket and event bundle are not required to obtain the move.
Why Zoroark struggles in PvP
JRE47’s October 9, 2026 matchup analysis identifies Zoroark’s exceptionally low bulk as its central problem. Its listed Great League stats are 157 Attack, 88 Defense, and 103 HP; the highest-stat-product spread cited is 1/15/15 at 1,496 CP and level 21.5. In Ultra League, the listed stats are 202 Attack, 113 Defense, and 134 HP, with a 1/15/15 spread at 2,497 CP and level 42.

Those figures help explain why stronger fast-move damage is not enough: Zoroark can apply pressure, but it has little room to absorb incoming attacks while building energy or reaching a charged move. The analysis finds it uncompetitive overall in both leagues. These conclusions come from specialist matchup simulations, not independently verified live tournament or player-wide win-rate data.

Sucker Punch versus Shadow Claw and Snarl
Sucker Punch’s advantage is damage per turn; Shadow Claw and Snarl build energy more quickly. The values below are those reported in JRE47’s analysis.
| Fast move | Damage per turn | Energy per turn | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sucker Punch | 4.0 | 3.5 | More fast-move damage, slower charged-move access |
| Shadow Claw | 3.0 | 4.0 | Less fast-move damage, faster charged-move access |
| Snarl | 1.67 | 4.33 | Lowest fast-move damage of these options, highest energy generation |
Foul Play costs 40 energy. Shadow Claw generates eight energy per use, so five Claws reach the cost; Sucker Punch generates seven, so it takes a sixth use to pass 40 energy. That extra move matters for a fragile Pokémon: Sucker Punch can deal more damage while Zoroark is attacking, but it delays Foul Play.
Rank #2
Great League: useful matchup shifts, weak overall results
In the cited one-shield comparison, Shadow Claw beats several opponents that Sucker Punch does not, including Jellicent, Cramorant, Empoleon, Feraligatr, and Tinkaton. Sucker Punch has some wins of its own in no-shield and two-shield scenarios, but the analysis describes the overall results as low. It also finds that other Dark-type options substantially outperform Zoroark in its Great League simulations.
JRE47 names Umbreon, Thievul, Mightyena, Alolan Persian, and Absol among those alternatives in the article’s specific comparison. That is not a universal ranking: results depend on the simulated shield state and the metagame snapshot used. The practical conclusion is that Sucker Punch does not make Zoroark a dependable Great League investment.

Ultra League: some improved matchups, still not a strong build
The analysis reports that Sucker Punch improves some Ultra League matchups over Shadow Claw, including Feraligatr, Swampert, and Talonflame. Even with those gains, the cited assessment gives Zoroark fewer than 25% wins and characterizes its performance as poor. That figure describes the author’s matchup assessment, not an observed win rate across players.
Which Zoroark moves should you use?
JRE47 lists these charged moves for Zoroark: Foul Play (65 damage, 40 energy), Night Shade (70 damage, 45 energy), Sludge Bomb (80 damage, 50 energy), and Flamethrower (90 damage, 55 energy). Foul Play is the lowest-cost option listed and is the clearest pairing for considering fast-move pacing. Flamethrower offers a higher-cost coverage option, but the analysis does not consider coverage enough to overcome Zoroark’s fragility and poor overall results.

- Does not use batteries
For a specialized matchup experiment, Sucker Punch is worth considering when its extra fast-move damage targets opponents you expect to face. If the plan depends on reaching Foul Play quickly, Shadow Claw’s energy advantage is relevant. Neither choice turns Zoroark into a reliable all-purpose pick, and the source does not establish a universally best moveset independent of matchup and shield conditions.

- For serious Great or Ultra League investment: The cited analysis does not recommend building Zoroark as a general-purpose PvP pick.
- For a specific matchup or collection: Sucker Punch offers a different damage-and-energy profile and can change individual outcomes, so it may suit a limited experiment.
- For the event move: Evolve by 9:00 p.m. local time on October 10, 2026, if you want a Zoroark with Sucker Punch. This move window does not depend on buying an event ticket.
The assessment is a specialist’s simulation-based analysis, not live tournament evidence. Its value is in showing how move pacing and shield scenarios affect Zoroark’s matchups—not in predicting a guaranteed result in any individual battle.
