Yes. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 supports cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and it supports cross-progression through a shared Activision account. A player on PS5 can play with someone on Xbox or PC, then use the same account on another linked platform and keep ranks, weapon progress, camos, unlocked content and Battle Pass progress.
The important limitation is account and currency handling: every platform must be linked to the same Activision account, while COD Points remain tied to the platform for spending. Cross-play also has console controls, so you can allow all platforms, restrict matchmaking to consoles, or turn the feature off where the playlist supports those options.
What “cross-platform” means in Call of Duty
People use “cross-platform” to describe two different features. Understanding the distinction prevents most surprises when moving between a console and a PC.
Cross-play lets different platforms share a match
Cross-play means players using different hardware platforms can join the same online multiplayer session. In Black Ops 6, PlayStation, Xbox and PC players can be matched together through Activision’s online services. A PlayStation player does not need to buy an Xbox or PC version to join a friend’s Black Ops 6 party on another supported platform, although each player still needs access to the relevant game or free experience.
#1 Best Overall
- Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower.
- This is signature Black Ops across a cinematic single-player Campaign, a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, and the epic return of Round-Based Zombies.
- The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
- In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
- Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
Activision’s Black Ops 6 support guidance, dated April 3, 2025, describes the feature this way: “Crossplay continues with the launch of Call of Duty®: Black Ops 6, allowing players on all platforms to play together.” The wording covers the supported platforms rather than promising that every older Call of Duty release has identical support.
Cross-progression keeps your account progress
Cross-progression means your progress is stored with your Activision account instead of being isolated on one console or PC. When the same Activision identity is used on linked platforms, the game can load your profile on each of them. That includes multiplayer progress and other account-based unlocks; it does not make every purchase or currency balance universal.
Which platforms support Black Ops 6 cross-play?
Activision currently lists Black Ops 6 for Xbox, Windows, Battle.net, PlayStation, Steam and Game Pass. The table shows how those options fit together.

| Platform or storefront | Can play with other listed platforms? | What you must do | Progression treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | Yes, with cross-play controls available on supported console playlists | Link the PlayStation account to the intended Activision account | Ranks, stats, unlocks and other account progress appear on linked platforms |
| Xbox | Yes, with the same supported cross-play controls | Link the Xbox account to the intended Activision account | Account-based progress follows the Activision identity |
| Windows PC | Yes | Use the same Activision account when launching the game | Progress is shared with linked console and PC profiles |
| Battle.net | Yes | Link the Battle.net account to the same Activision account | Progress is not tied only to the Battle.net installation |
| Steam | Yes | Link Steam to the same Activision account | Account progress is available when that identity is used |
| Game Pass | Yes, when playing on a supported Xbox or Windows setup | Sign in with the Activision account connected to the platform account | Progress follows the Activision account, not a separate Game Pass profile |
This table describes feature compatibility, not a single universal purchase. Before switching devices, verify that the destination platform has access to the edition you intend to play. Warzone is a separate free-to-play option, while Black Ops 6 access depends on the edition or subscription available in your region.
How cross-play works in actual matches
Once accounts are linked, matchmaking can place players from different platforms in the same supported multiplayer session. You can invite a friend on another platform through the game’s social and party features, provided both players are using compatible versions and online services are available.
Console cross-play settings
On supported console playlists, the available choices are:
- On: matchmaking can include players on other supported platforms.
- On (Consoles Only): matchmaking is restricted to console players, excluding PC players from the search.
- Off: cross-platform matchmaking is disabled for that supported playlist.
The exact choices can depend on the game mode and the current version. If a setting is missing, greyed out or behaves differently, check whether the playlist supports the control and whether the game is fully updated.

Mixed-platform parties can change the matchmaking requirement
A party containing players from different platform groups may need a broader setting to find a match. For example, a console player who selects consoles-only matchmaking cannot use that restriction to search for a party that includes a PC player. The game may ask the party to temporarily allow the wider cross-play pool. Accepting that change lets the party queue together; leaving the restriction in place can prevent matchmaking.
Cross-play is a matchmaking feature, not a guarantee that every mode, event or temporary playlist will remain available forever. Activision can limit a control to supported playlists, so judge the setting by what the current in-game menu offers.
What cross-progression transfers between platforms?
Activision states that “Game progression is stored on your Activision account.” With the same account linked everywhere, the following account progress is designed to carry over:
- Player statistics and multiplayer records
- Ranks and level progress
- Weapon progression
- Weapon camos and related unlock progress
- Unlocked content associated with the account
- Battle Pass progress
That means changing from a console to a PC does not require starting a new rank or re-earning weapon levels, as long as the destination installation is signed in to the same Activision identity. The account, not the hardware, is the source of this progress.
COD Points are the principal exception
COD Points are tied to the platform for spending. Your account-based items and progress can appear on linked platforms, but COD Points purchased or held for use on one platform may need to be spent on that platform. Treat the balance as a platform-specific wallet rather than assuming that it will be interchangeable between PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
If you plan to buy a Battle Pass, bundle or other item after changing devices, check which platform is active before confirming the transaction. The purchased content itself may be usable on linked platforms when Activision marks it as account-based, but the COD Points used to buy it remain subject to the platform rule.
Linking the wrong account can hide your progress
Linking a platform account to a different Activision account does not merge the two profiles. Activision warns: “If you choose to link your platform account to another Activision account, your progress will not carry over.” In practice, a newly linked account can look empty even though the original profile still exists.

Relinking the original platform account to the Activision account that contains your progress restores access to that profile, subject to Activision’s account-management limits. Do not create a replacement account just because a new device appears to have no unlocks.

Can PS5 and Xbox play Call of Duty together?
Yes. Black Ops 6 cross-play allows PlayStation and Xbox players to join the same supported sessions. Both players should use their own platform account linked to their intended Activision account, then add each other through the game’s social system. A console player can use the consoles-only option when playing alone, but a party that includes a player from another platform may require the broader cross-play setting.
Does Call of Duty progress transfer from console to PC?
Yes, when the console and PC platform accounts are linked to the same Activision account. Ranks, statistics, weapon and camo progress, unlocked content and Battle Pass progress are account-based. The transfer does not depend on whether the PC copy is launched through Windows, Steam or Battle.net; the critical requirement is the Activision identity used at sign-in.
Can Steam, Battle.net and Windows players play together?
Yes. Activision lists all three PC routes as supported Black Ops 6 platforms. A player changing PC storefronts should connect the new platform account to the same Activision account rather than creating a second one. The storefront can affect how the game is installed or accessed, but it is not a reason to create a separate progress profile.
What if I only play Warzone?
Warzone is the free-to-play route for players who do not own the paid Black Ops 6 campaign and multiplayer package. Use the same Activision account across the platforms on which you play Warzone so account-based progress and eligible unlocked content remain associated with one profile. Cross-play controls are available only where the current Warzone playlist exposes them, so the in-game Account & Network menu is the authority for your installation.

Complete the account setup before you start earning progress on a second platform.
- Sign in to the Activision account you already use for Call of Duty. If you have played before, identify the account that contains your rank, unlocks and Battle Pass progress.
- Open the account’s linked-accounts area. Connect the PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Battle.net or Microsoft account you intend to use. Link each platform to this same Activision identity.
- Start Black Ops 6 or Warzone on every platform. At sign-in, confirm that the game is using the same Activision account rather than prompting you to create or use another profile.
- Verify your profile before playing. Check that your expected rank, weapon levels, camos and Battle Pass progress are visible. Stop before earning new progress if the profile appears empty; continuing on the wrong account can make troubleshooting harder.
- Check cross-play controls on console. Open the in-game Account & Network settings and review the available cross-play choice for the playlist you want to play.
- Add friends and test a party. Invite the other platform player and queue for a supported mode. If the party contains different platform types, accept the temporary broader matchmaking setting when prompted.
How to turn cross-play off or restrict it
On a supported console playlist, open the game’s Account & Network settings and locate the cross-play control. Choose On for the widest pool, On (Consoles Only) to exclude PC matchmaking, or Off to disable cross-platform matchmaking. Save or apply the setting if the menu presents an additional confirmation.

Turning cross-play off can lengthen matchmaking or make a mixed-platform party impossible to queue. If you later join a party containing a player outside your selected pool, the game may ask you to broaden the setting temporarily. The control is not necessarily exposed in every playlist, so absence of the option does not automatically indicate an account problem.
Buying Black Ops 6 versus using Warzone
Cross-play does not remove the difference between game access and account progress. Black Ops 6 is listed across Xbox, Windows, Battle.net, PlayStation, Steam and Game Pass, while Warzone is the free experience. Before moving to another device, check these four items:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Which platform storefront or subscription provides access to the edition you want
- Whether the edition is available in your region
- Whether you are launching the paid Black Ops 6 content or only Warzone
- Which Activision account is connected before you make purchases or start a new profile
Cross-progression can preserve your profile, but it should not be treated as a universal license for every edition on every storefront. Confirm access on the destination platform instead of assuming that an existing installation or purchase will automatically appear there.
Troubleshooting cross-play and missing progress
Your rank or unlocks are missing on the new platform
Sign out and verify the Activision account shown in the game. Compare it with the account that contains your original progress. If the platform was linked to a different Activision account, move it back to the original account through the account-management area. Do not keep playing on the empty profile while trying to locate the correct one.
You cannot join a friend on another platform
Confirm that both players are on supported, updated versions and that the selected playlist allows cross-play. On console, check whether Off or On (Consoles Only) is blocking the party. A mixed-platform group may need to accept a temporary change to the wider matchmaking pool.
Your COD Point balance looks different
Check the platform on which the points were purchased and the platform currently being used for spending. COD Points are the documented platform-tied exception, so a different balance on another device does not necessarily mean that your Activision progress was lost.
The cross-play option is not visible
Open Account & Network, install any pending game update and check another supported playlist. Activision’s controls apply to supported modes rather than every menu or event. If the option remains unavailable, the current playlist or platform configuration may simply not expose that control.
You are unsure whether to relink an account
Do not unlink or relink impulsively. Activision’s account guidance says progress will not carry over when a platform account is moved to another Activision account. First identify the account that holds the progress, then reconnect the platform to that identity. Keep records of the sign-in email or other account details before making changes.
Pre-switch checklist
- Identify the Activision account containing your current progress.
- Link the destination platform account to that same identity.
- Confirm the destination platform has access to Black Ops 6 or the Warzone experience you intend to use.
- Check your rank, weapon progress, camos and Battle Pass after the first sign-in.
- Remember that COD Points are tied to the platform for spending.
- Review the console cross-play choice in Account & Network before joining a party.
- Do not create a second Activision account to solve a missing-progress screen.
The practical rule is simple: use one Activision account for every platform, treat cross-play as a matchmaking setting, and treat COD Points as platform-specific for spending. With that setup, Black Ops 6 supports play and account progress across the listed PlayStation, Xbox and PC options.
