Blue Owl Capital Inc. is an asset manager, not a REIT or BDC. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under OWL. REIT and BDC describe separate investment vehicles in Blue Owl’s broader business, such as Blue Owl Capital Corporation (NYSE: OBDC), not the listed parent itself.
What is Blue Owl Capital?
Blue Owl Capital Inc. is the listed parent and alternative asset manager. It describes its business as three platforms: Credit, Real Assets, and GP Strategic Capital. The company reported $319 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026, across those platforms. AUM is a measure of assets it manages, not a statement that those assets are owned on the parent’s balance sheet. The company also reported approximately 1,380 professionals globally on its overview accessed October 4, 2026; that headcount is time-sensitive and company-reported. Blue Owl’s shareholder overview
Blue Owl says it began trading on the NYSE in 2021. Its company history traces the origins of its platforms to Owl Rock (Credit), Dyal Capital (GP Strategic Capital), and Oak Street (Real Assets). Blue Owl’s company history

No. OWL is the stock ticker for Blue Owl Capital Inc., the asset manager. A business development company (BDC) or real estate investment trust (REIT) is a specific investment vehicle. Blue Owl sponsors or manages such vehicles, but that does not make the parent company itself a BDC or REIT.

What a BDC label means here
A BDC is a regulated investment-company structure used by certain Blue Owl lending businesses. Blue Owl Capital Corporation is a specialty-finance company focused on lending to U.S. middle-market companies. It has elected BDC regulation and is externally managed by an adviser affiliated with Blue Owl Capital Inc. Blue Owl’s February 18, 2026 release
What a REIT label means here
A REIT is a real estate investment vehicle, not the name for Blue Owl’s parent company. Blue Owl’s investor portal lists Blue Owl Real Estate Net Lease Trust among its REIT and BDC offerings. That listing establishes its place in Blue Owl’s product lineup; it does not establish an exchange ticker or listing for the trust. Blue Owl’s investor portal

How OWL, OBDC, OBDE and the REIT vehicle differ
| Entity | Role | Focus or structure | Trading or access information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Owl Capital Inc. | Listed parent and asset manager | Credit, Real Assets, and GP Strategic Capital | NYSE: OWL |
| Blue Owl Capital Corporation | Separate specialty-finance company and BDC | Lending to U.S. middle-market companies; externally managed by an adviser affiliated with Blue Owl Capital Inc. | NYSE: OBDC |
| Blue Owl Capital Corporation III | BDC | Blue Owl BDC vehicle | Blue Owl’s 3Q24 materials identify it as publicly traded under NYSE: OBDE. Because that source is from November 2024, confirm current listing status before relying on it. Blue Owl 3Q24 BDC materials |
| Blue Owl Real Estate Net Lease Trust | REIT vehicle | Real-estate net-lease product | Listed in Blue Owl’s investor portal; exchange listing and ticker are not established by that source. Blue Owl’s investor portal |
Blue Owl’s materials distinguish publicly traded BDCs from non-traded BDCs; not every Blue Owl-sponsored vehicle has a stock ticker or is publicly traded. The cited structure materials identify OBDC and OBDE as publicly traded and other BDCs as non-traded. Because that comparison is from 3Q24 materials, treat it as a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee of present status. Blue Owl 3Q24 BDC materials

What the distinction means for someone looking up a ticker
- OWL refers to shares in the asset manager, Blue Owl Capital Inc.
- OBDC refers to shares in Blue Owl Capital Corporation, a separately structured BDC—not the parent.
- OBDE was identified as publicly traded in Blue Owl’s 3Q24 BDC materials; check current listing information because the cited status is dated.
- A product appearing in Blue Owl’s REIT and BDC portal is not, by itself, evidence that the product is exchange-listed or available to every investor.
The relevant distinction is the identity of the security or vehicle: parent-company stock, shares in a particular BDC, or an interest in a REIT vehicle are not interchangeable simply because they share the Blue Owl name. Blue Owl’s investor portal and product materials distinguish these offerings and their access status. Blue Owl’s investor portal
