Blue Owl Capital’s latest reported results show a large, growing asset manager, but they do not establish that its publicly traded shares are a bargain. For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Blue Owl reported $319 billion in assets under management (AUM), alongside substantial fee-related and distributable earnings. To decide whether OWL is cheap after a dip, investors still need a current share price and a valuation comparison; operating growth alone is not enough.
What Blue Owl’s latest results say about the business
Blue Owl Capital Inc. reported its second-quarter 2026 results on July 30, 2026. As of June 30, the alternative asset manager had $319 billion in AUM. The company’s results release quoted co-CEOs Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz saying: “Blue Owl’s ongoing growth in the second quarter reflects the strong investment performance we continue to generate across strategies and the diversification of our business across platforms and geographies.” That is management’s characterization of performance, not independent confirmation of future returns. (Blue Owl’s Q2 2026 results release)
Blue Owl reports multiple earnings measures, which should not be treated as interchangeable. Its Form 10-Q reported $392.180 million in fee-related earnings and $351.240 million in distributable earnings for the quarter. The company’s earnings presentation cautions that non-GAAP measures should be considered alongside, not instead of, GAAP measures. A valuation assessment should therefore identify which earnings measure it uses and compare it consistently. (Form 10-Q; Q2 2026 earnings presentation)
Operating details that complicate the bullish case
Some AUM was not yet generating fees
At quarter end, $31.1 billion of Blue Owl’s AUM was not yet paying fees, according to its Form 10-Q. Total AUM is a measure of scale, but not all AUM contributes fee revenue at the same time. Investors assessing the durability or growth potential of fee-related earnings should distinguish fee-paying assets from assets that have not begun generating fees. The filing provides the amount, but that figure by itself does not establish when or whether those assets will begin paying fees. (Form 10-Q)

Redemption requests at certain non-traded funds remained elevated
Blue Owl disclosed that redemption requests remained elevated at certain of its managed non-traded business development companies (BDCs), though they were moderately lower than in the first quarter of 2026. This is management’s reported operating context; it does not, on its own, establish an imminent liquidity event or predict how requests will develop. It is nevertheless a factor to weigh when considering fundraising, fund operations and the execution of the firm’s business plans. (Form 10-Q)
A managed BDC’s NAV is not OWL’s share valuation
Blue Owl Capital Corporation, a managed BDC, reported second-quarter adjusted net investment income of $0.34 per share and NAV of $14.26 per share, down from $14.41 at March 31, 2026. Its August 5 release attributed the NAV decrease primarily to markdowns on a small number of names, partly offset by earning more than its dividend and accretive repurchases. It declared total dividends of $0.33 per share. These are fund-level results for Blue Owl Capital Corporation, not earnings of Blue Owl Capital Inc. and not evidence that OWL shares trade at a discount. What would establish whether OWL is a bargain?
A “dip” describes a price move; it does not establish fair value. The official results and filings cited here provide operating information, but do not give a current OWL share price or establish that the stock is attractively valued against its own history or comparable firms. Without those inputs, the claim that OWL is a big bargain remains an investment thesis rather than a conclusion supported by the reported figures.
A useful valuation check would bring together the following, using the same date and a clearly identified share-price basis:
Rank #3
- Share price and market capitalization: Establish what investors are paying now, rather than relying on the fact that the shares have fallen.
- Earnings measures: Compare price with fee-related earnings, distributable earnings and GAAP net income, keeping their different definitions clear.
- Fee-paying assets: Assess how much of reported AUM is generating fees and how the non-fee-paying portion may affect results.
- Distributions and financial position: Consider the company’s distributions and balance-sheet information alongside its earnings and market value.
- Execution and fund pressures: Factor in redemption requests disclosed at certain non-traded BDCs and the company’s ability to execute its plans.
Blue Owl warns that past performance and market information are not predictive of future results. Strong reported earnings or AUM growth can inform an investment case, but neither guarantees future growth nor demonstrates that the share price is below fair value. (Q2 2026 earnings presentation)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to interpret the “buying the dip” thesis
The bullish argument can point to Blue Owl’s scale and second-quarter earnings as evidence of a substantial operating business. The counterpoint is that AUM includes assets not yet paying fees, some non-traded BDCs faced elevated redemption requests, and a separate managed BDC reported a decline in NAV. None of these facts alone decides whether OWL is a buy: the BDC NAV is not OWL’s valuation, and the operating metrics do not replace a comparison between the stock’s market value and its financial performance.
Rank #4
On the evidence in the company’s July 30, 2026 results and SEC filing, Blue Owl’s business performance can be described, but the bargain claim cannot be verified without a contemporaneous OWL price and valuation analysis. Investors considering a purchase should make that comparison rather than treating a recent decline as proof of undervaluation.
