Sometimes—but not automatically. An LG Premium Care plan is worth considering if its current quote buys meaningful coverage beyond what you already have and you would struggle to pay an unexpected repair bill. Check the exact contract, start date, exclusions, and claim rules before buying; LG’s example repair costs do not tell you how likely a covered breakdown is.
This guidance concerns U.S. LG Premium Care information. Plan availability, contract terms, prices, and consumer protections vary by location, so verify the offer and contract for your appliance and state.
What LG Premium Care says it covers
LG’s U.S. warranty-information page describes optional Premium Care extensions of one, two, or three years for major appliances and home-entertainment products. For covered mechanical or electrical failures, it says repairs include parts and labor with no deductible. LG’s separate overview says coverage applies after the manufacturer warranty expires and that LG offers replacement or reimbursement if the product cannot be repaired. These are summaries; the contract for your specific offer controls.

LG’s undated U.S. warranty-information page displays these one-year plan prices alongside average repair-cost examples. They are LG’s figures, not independently verified market averages or a forecast for your appliance; the page does not give a publication year, and your current quote may differ.

These figures can help frame a conversation about cost, but they cannot establish whether a plan will save money. That would also require the chance of a covered failure during the term, the contract’s limits and exclusions, and whether a claim would be approved. The information available here does not establish model-specific LG failure rates.

How to decide whether the plan is worth the quote
- Identify the coverage you already have. Read the manufacturer warranty and any protection from a retailer, credit card, or other plan. Check the Premium Care start date to see whether it overlaps existing coverage or begins afterward.
- Get the price for your exact appliance and term. Use the current quote for your model and location, rather than assuming LG’s displayed examples apply to you.
- Check coverage and exclusions. Find out what the contract treats as a mechanical or electrical breakdown. Review exclusions, maintenance requirements, pre-existing-condition rules, and any limits on parts or labor.
- Understand how a claim works. Verify any deductible or service fee, who arranges service, whether you must use an authorized repairer, and what happens if repair is unavailable or considered uneconomic.
- Compare the cost with your ability to absorb a repair. Consider plausible repair bills and your budget. A plan may make sense for someone who values predictable costs even if its expected financial value is uncertain; it is less compelling when the premium is high relative to the added protection and an unexpected repair would be manageable.
Compare Premium Care with other protection
If a retailer or third party offers coverage, compare the contracts rather than just the headline price or term.
- Total price and length of coverage, including when protection begins.
- Covered breakdowns, exclusions, maintenance duties, and parts or labor limits.
- Deductibles, service fees, repair-provider requirements, and claim steps.
- Repair, replacement, or reimbursement limits and how those decisions are made.
- Overlap with the manufacturer warranty or other protection you already have.
LG identifies different plan obligors depending on location on its warranty-information page, including different entities in Florida and the District of Columbia. Check the current contract for the entity responsible for your offer rather than relying on a general summary.

Why the contract matters more than the “extended warranty” label
The Federal Trade Commission explains that a service contract can cost extra, duplicate coverage already included with a product, cover only part of it, or make repairs difficult to obtain. It also notes that an extra contract may not benefit consumers when repairs are inexpensive. The FTC distinguishes service contracts from warranties, even when a seller calls a service contract an “extended warranty.” See its consumer guidance on warranties and service contracts.
The North Carolina Department of Justice likewise recommends reading both the manufacturer warranty and service contract carefully and considering whether the contract offers enough coverage to justify its cost. Its service-contract guidance is state-specific consumer information, not a substitute for the law or contract that applies where you live.
