Yes—AION 2 is listed as free to play on Steam, so buying the game is not listed as a requirement for access to the global PC version. Free access does not mean every feature is free: NC has described optional memberships, passes, cosmetics, and premium-currency exchange. In the reported global model, an active membership is required for Market trading and the Kina–Quna Exchange. Terms can vary by region and change over time.
Which AION 2 service are you asking about?
AION 2’s Korea and Taiwan service and its global PC service are separate contexts. NC announced the Korea and Taiwan launch for November 19, 2025. Steam lists October 5, 2026 as the global PC release date; that date is one day after this article’s October 4, 2026 information date, so availability may change quickly. Check the live Steam listing for current status.

NC’s pre-launch description of the Korea and Taiwan business model is useful background, but it does not establish the exact current terms of the global service. For the global membership mechanics and reported price below, the available detailed account is a secondary report of NC’s July 8, 2026 notice, rather than the notice itself.
What does free to play mean in practice?
Free to play means the game is listed without an upfront purchase requirement. It does not establish that every system, convenience feature, or item is available without spending. NC’s regional model announcement described memberships and passes, appearance items, and exchanging in-game currency for premium currency. The global plan is reported to make access to some player-economy functions a membership benefit.

What does the reported global membership unlock?
According to AION 2 Hub’s report on NC’s July 8 global business-model notice, Kina is earned through gameplay and used as Market currency, while Quna is premium currency. The report says an active Membership is required to use the player-driven Market and the Kina–Quna Exchange. That distinction matters: a player may be able to start without paying, yet still need a recurring subscription to use those economic features.
The report gives the Membership price as $15 per month and says it includes access to a special shop and additional gameplay benefits that it does not specify. Treat this as a reported global price, not a guaranteed current price or complete list of benefits: check NC’s current notice or the in-game purchase screen before subscribing. NC’s June 2026 announcement separately said the earlier three-tier membership structure had been consolidated into one Special Quai Membership with improved benefits at a reduced price, but did not publish the revised price or enumerate those benefits. That Korea/Taiwan announcement should not be used as proof of identical global terms.

What other purchases are described?
Shop items
NC’s September 2025 announcement for Korea and Taiwan described cosmetics including costumes, weapon skins, pets, and wings, as well as convenience-oriented memberships and passes. The global-plan report also describes appearance items and consumables in the shop. These announcements describe categories of purchases, not a complete or permanent catalog.
Daeva Pass
The global-plan report describes a Daeva Pass with a free Standard track and a paid Premium track. Premium rewards may include cosmetics, items, upgrade materials, and other currencies. The report does not establish whether those materials affect gear progression, so it would be inaccurate to call the paid track cosmetics-only or to conclude from this information alone that it is pay-to-win.

What do the reported spending figures tell you?
NC reported that AION 2 generated KRW 100 billion in cumulative revenue within 46 days of its November 19, 2025 launch, and that more than one million characters had purchased memberships by January 3, 2026. These are company-reported figures for the launched service, not a measure of what an individual player must spend and not a global-only statistic. NC’s figures are in its January 7, 2026 announcement.

How to decide whether the free version is enough
- If you only want to try the game: Steam lists the global PC version as free to play, so no game purchase is listed as necessary. Confirm its live status and current terms on Steam.
- If you want to trade through the player economy: the global-plan report says Market trading and the Kina–Quna Exchange require active Membership; verify the current in-game requirement and price.
- If you are considering the paid pass: review the current reward track rather than assuming it contains only cosmetics; reported rewards include materials and other currencies, with their progression impact not established here.
- If you play the Korea or Taiwan service: check the terms for that service specifically. Its announcements and membership changes do not automatically describe the global service.
