There is no confirmed next-generation Google TV Streamer with built-in far-field microphones, presence sensing, or a new remote in the official information reviewed. Google’s current named streaming box remains the Google TV Streamer (4K). The microphone and sensing claims concern reported plans for future Google TV experiences and television hardware—not a confirmed successor streaming box.
What is confirmed about a next-generation Google TV Streamer?
Google’s official product information describes the Google TV Streamer (4K), but does not confirm a successor with the features in the headline. No successor specifications, release date, price, or regional availability are established by the official sources cited here.
The distinction matters: Google TV is a platform that runs on partner televisions and streaming devices. New platform features do not, by themselves, mean Google has announced new Google-branded streaming hardware.

A January 6, 2025 TechRadar report discussed future Google TV capabilities, including Gemini, far-field microphones, and proximity sensing. Its discussion concerned the direction of the Google TV experience and prospective television hardware. It did not establish that Google was developing a new Streamer box with those sensors.

In 2025, Google executive Shalini Govil-Pai described an “always on TV” and one with a far-field microphone as priorities for upcoming launches. StreamTV Insider reported the remarks, but they do not name a Google TV Streamer successor. They should not be treated as a product specification or launch confirmation.
What Google has announced for Google TV instead
At CES on January 5, 2026, Google announced Gemini software features for Google TV: visually rich answers, Google Photos search and creative tools, and natural-language controls for picture and sound settings. Google said the features would arrive first on select TCL devices, then on other Google TV devices over the following months. Availability depends on device, country, and language; the announcement is a software rollout, not a new streaming-box announcement. See Google’s CES 2026 announcement for the rollout details.

How the current Streamer compares with the rumored features
| Area | Google TV Streamer (4K), confirmed | Proposed next generation |

| Device generation | Google’s documented current streaming box; announced August 6, 2024. | Not confirmed in the official sources cited here. |
| Remote and microphone | The current Voice Remote has a microphone for speaking to Google, a customizable button, and Find My Remote. Google says it works with the Streamer (4K) and Chromecast with Google TV. Google’s remote help page describes voice-search examples. | A different or next-generation remote is not confirmed. |
| Far-field microphones and presence sensing | The cited current-product information does not establish these sensors in the Streamer box. | Not confirmed for a new Google streaming box; the reported discussion relates to future Google TV experiences and TV hardware. |
| Google TV and Gemini software | Google TV features are announced for select devices, with staged, device- and region-dependent availability. | No separate successor-only software features have been confirmed. |
| Smart-home connectivity | Google describes the current Streamer as a Thread border router and a hub for Matter and Google Home devices. | Successor connectivity specifications are not stated. |
| Price and release timing | Google reported a US preorder and a $99.99 launch price in August 2024. This is historical launch information, not a guaranteed current price. | Not confirmed. |
The current device’s launch specifications also included 32 GB of storage and a claimed 22% faster CPU than the preceding Chromecast with Google TV. Google’s launch comparison does not establish specifications for any successor.
What the 300 million-device figure does—and does not—show
In 2025, StreamTV Insider attributed a figure of 300 million monthly active devices to Govil-Pai, Google’s VP and GM of Android TV. This describes platform reach; it is not a Google TV Streamer sales total, market-share measure, or evidence that a particular successor is planned.

Should you wait for a new Google TV Streamer?
If you need a Google streaming box now, the Google TV Streamer (4K) is the confirmed product to consider. Its current remote already includes a microphone, but that is not evidence of a new remote or far-field microphones in a future box. The successor described in the headline remains unconfirmed, so there is no verified launch date or specification list to use when deciding whether to wait.
