A job listing can be new to a feed without being newly posted by an employer. To judge its freshness, separate the employer’s publication date from the date an aggregator first found it and the date it last checked the listing. Those timestamps answer different questions—and none alone proves that the employer is still accepting applications.

Why do job boards say a posting is new when it is not?

“New” can refer to different events. A job may have been published earlier but only recently discovered by a search service; a listing may also be checked again without being newly posted or changed. Unless a feed identifies which date it displays, a recent-looking label is ambiguous.

Timestamp What it tells you What it does not prove
Source publication time When the source says a listing, or a version of it, became public. That an aggregator found it then, or that the role is still open.
First observation time When a collector or aggregator first encountered the listing. That the employer opened the role on that date.
Last successful check or last seen When the source was last checked or the listing was last observed. That the listing changed or that the employer is still accepting applications.

These are separate events, not interchangeable ways of dating a vacancy. A feed that refreshes a record should preserve the original publication date and the later observation date rather than making the listing appear newly opened. The DEV article search result discusses this event-time distinction; HireSeeker also recommends checking the original posting. [The DEV result’s URL is not published here.]

How does HireSeeker collect vacancies, and how fresh are they?

HireSeeker says it gathers IT vacancies from several kinds of sources into a searchable feed that can be used without registration. It names hh.ru, Telegram channels, company career sites, and specialist platforms such as Habr Career and GetMatch. Users can configure criteria and receive a daily digest link through Telegram. These are the company’s descriptions of its service, not an independent audit of its coverage or speed.

HireSeeker says collection frequency depends on the source: hh.ru vacancies may be added within an hour, while other sources follow their own schedules. Treat that as a company-reported cadence, not a service-level guarantee or an independently measured latency distribution. The company also notes that connected sources change, and says it would be dishonest to promise to collect every vacancy on the market. HireSeeker’s article (its exact URL is not published here) explains its approach and advises readers to follow the original-posting links.

A combined feed can save time switching between sources, but inclusion in the feed does not verify an employer’s quality or confirm that a role remains open. Follow the source link for the specific vacancy, and ask the recruiter to resolve conflicting details.

How can I tell if a job posting is still real?

  1. Open the original source. Check whether the employer’s posting still loads and whether its application instructions remain available.
  2. Identify the date’s meaning. Look for wording such as “posted,” “first seen,” “added,” or “last checked.” If the feed does not say what its date represents, do not assume it is the employer’s publication date.
  3. Check for recent confirmation separately. A recent last-seen date means the listing was observed or checked at that time; it does not establish that the role changed or is still accepting applicants.
  4. Resolve discrepancies with the recruiter. If the feed and the employer’s page differ on status, date, or details, use the original posting and confirm with the recruiter.

“Active” is not always the same as “recently verified.” SeekerScore’s 2026 analysis puts it this way: “An ‘active’ flag generally means no evidence of removal, not a fresh check.” Its automated URL verifier sometimes received rate limits or refusals instead of a clear not-found response, so URL-based deactivations should not be treated as a reliable market-wide job-death rate. SeekerScore’s analysis (its exact URL is not published here) describes those limitations.

How old is the average job posting when I see it?

There is no universal age established by the available figures. SeekerScore’s measurements describe its own corpus and snapshots, not every job board or the market as a whole. They also measure different things, so they should not be combined into one freshness rate.

Measure SeekerScore result How to interpret it
Records re-seen by the source feed In a snapshot dated 2026-08-13, 27.5% of 239,806 active postings had been re-seen in their source feed in the preceding 24 hours. A 2026-09-05 update reported 38.2% re-confirmed within 24 hours. These are dated SeekerScore corpus checks, not universal job-board rates. A recent re-sighting measures observation, not necessarily continued hiring.
Postings marked inactive 23.0% of all postings in SeekerScore’s corpus were inactive in its 2026-09-05 update. This is a corpus status figure, not the share of all vacancies in the job market that are dead.
Less than a week old by two different clocks In a 2026-08-16 analysis of 49,997 postings with parseable employer-supplied dates, 10.3% were under a week old by employer date; 23.2% were under a week old by index first-seen date. The analysis was a 20% systematic sample of active postings, limited to records with parseable employer dates. The larger first-seen share shows how discovery dates can make the “new” group look bigger.
Median age by two different clocks In those same 49,997 records, the median was 28 days by employer-supplied date and 26 days by index first-seen date. SeekerScore cautions that this comparison does not measure ingestion lag, time to fill, or whether older listings are dead.
Source feeds with no active row re-seen for more than a week 17,130 active postings in the 2026-08-13 snapshot were on feeds with no active row re-seen for more than a week. SeekerScore uses the most recent re-seen row per source; a source labeled fresh can still contain older records that have not been recently observed.

These figures are useful for understanding why dates can disagree, not for deciding that a particular older listing is closed. Employer dates may be incomplete or reset, and the source-level re-seen measure does not confirm each individual vacancy. Check the original listing rather than inferring its status from age alone.

What should you compare when choosing a vacancy feed?

A single “freshness” label can hide important differences. Compare the evidence behind it instead:

  • Whether the displayed date comes from the employer or records when the feed first saw the listing.
  • When the source last re-confirmed the listing, if that information is available.
  • Whether the original source link and listing provenance are visible.
  • How often each source is collected, and whether that cadence is stated by the service or independently measured.
  • How duplicates and changed records are handled, so an update or repeat sighting is not mistaken for a newly opened role.

HireSeeker describes using source links and deduplication, but the company’s article does not establish that every listing displays all three timestamps as separate fields. Nor does it provide independently measured latency distributions for each source. Do not assume a complete event history is visible in the product unless the specific record shows it.
