For gaming, yes—if your PC or console supports the signal features you want and you have room for a large screen. A 48-inch OLED TV can deliver a compelling 4K gaming setup, with the 2025 LG OLED evo C5 offering four HDMI 2.1 ports and VRR up to 144Hz on compatible PC inputs or games. As a close, all-day PC monitor, it is a more conditional choice: the screen may overwhelm a desk, and OLED care guidance matters when bright interface elements stay in the same place for long periods.
Is a 48-inch OLED TV good for gaming?
It can be an excellent choice for console or PC gaming from a couch or a suitably distant seat. The screen is large, and a current example—the 48-inch LG OLED evo C5—combines 4K resolution with gaming-oriented connections and refresh features. What Hi-Fi? also recommends the 48-inch C5 for gaming and movies in its 2026 TV guide; that is the publication’s editorial recommendation, not a guarantee that it is the right set for every room or setup.

LG’s UK listing for the 2025 OLED48C55LA specifies four HDMI 2.1 ports, each with 48Gbps bandwidth, plus ALLM, G-SYNC compatibility, AMD FreeSync Premium, QMS and HGiG. LG says the 48-inch model supports VRR up to 144Hz on compatible PC inputs or games. Features and model names can vary by region, so check the local listing for the exact SKU you plan to buy: LG OLED48C55LA specifications.
What 144Hz does—and does not—mean
“Up to 144Hz” is not a promise that every connected device will produce 4K at 144 frames per second. The TV, source device, cable, regional model and game or PC mode must all support the intended signal. LG explicitly conditions the C5’s 144Hz VRR support on compatible PC inputs or games. Check your graphics card or console’s output capabilities and the relevant input settings before treating 4K/144Hz as a requirement; a console or game that cannot supply that signal will not gain it simply because the TV supports it.

The C5’s four HDMI inputs can be useful if you want to connect a PC, console and other devices without frequently swapping cables. If your existing HDMI cable cannot carry the signal you want, use a cable rated for it; a replacement is not automatically necessary.
Can a 48-inch OLED TV work as a PC monitor?
Yes, it can accept PC input, but whether it works well at your desk depends heavily on distance, layout and the kind of work you do. A 48-inch screen occupies substantial space. At close range, the display may not feel comfortable to scan, and official specifications alone cannot establish whether its text rendering or ergonomics will suit you. Do not assume it will feel like a conventional desk monitor just because it can connect to a PC.
Before choosing one, measure desk depth and consider where the screen’s center will sit relative to your normal posture. Think about operating-system scaling, how much of the screen you can view comfortably without repeatedly moving your head or eyes, and whether the seller’s return period gives you a practical way to judge the fit at home.

Taskbars, browser controls and productivity-app panels can remain in the same place for long sessions. LG warns against showing static images for extended periods and says its Pixel Cleaning feature reduces—but does not eliminate—the risk of permanent image retention (“burn-in”). The company says Pixel Cleaning runs automatically after accumulated use, usually while the TV is off but still plugged in; it can also be started manually. LG advises leaving the TV plugged in after turning it off so automatic cleaning can complete. Read LG’s model-specific guidance on its C5 product page.

A TV makes sense when living-room viewing and gaming are priorities, or when you want one large display for both entertainment and occasional PC use. A dedicated monitor may suit a desk-oriented setup better if you specifically want monitor-style connectivity such as DisplayPort or a screen sized and arranged for close work. Compare the exact models rather than assuming every monitor has the same advantages.
For example, LG’s 48GQ90B-B specification sheet describes a 47.53-inch 4K OLED monitor with DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, a 120Hz refresh rate (138Hz overclocked), a stated 0.1ms GtG response time, G-SYNC compatibility, AMD FreeSync, and anti-glare/low-reflection treatment. Those are specifications for this particular model, not universal monitor characteristics or proof it is the better purchase. LG’s 2022 announcement refers to the model as 48GQ900 and lists 47.5 inches, 4K, 120Hz/138Hz overclocked and 0.1ms response. These are historical product details, not an indication of current availability in your market.

LG’s official 2022 announcement for its then-new UltraGear monitors quoted Seo Young-jae, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company: “Ideal for both PC and console gaming, our new monitors offer features and capabilities that take the entire gaming experience to the next level.” The statement concerns those monitors, not the C5 television. The announcement is available from LG Corporation; the model-specific monitor figures above are in LG’s 48GQ90B-B specification sheet.
Quick Recap
How to decide before buying
- Start with where you will sit. A large screen is easier to justify for couch gaming or a deep desk than for close, prolonged work at a shallow desk.
- Match the signal to your hardware. Check the device’s resolution and refresh output, the game’s support, the TV’s regional specifications and the cable’s capability. Do not assume 4K/144Hz from the TV specification alone.
- Count the connections you need. Consider the PC, consoles and other devices you will attach, plus any eARC setup. Compare the TV’s HDMI layout with whether your desk setup needs DisplayPort.
- Be honest about desktop habits. If your days involve long sessions with fixed, bright taskbars or application panels, weigh LG’s image-retention warning and Pixel Cleaning guidance against your intended use.
- Check ownership details for your exact SKU. Confirm local availability, warranty, stand or wall-mount compatibility, current price and stock, and the return policy before buying.
- Use a return window to judge fit if possible. Desk comfort, text appearance and scaling are personal; specifications cannot settle those questions for your viewing distance.
