The India-market iQOO Z9 5G was a strong 2024 value phone for buyers who put gaming performance and a bright AMOLED display ahead of a polished design or versatile cameras. Reviewers also liked its main camera and battery life, but found Funtouch OS cluttered and noted that the phone has no ultrawide camera. This verdict applies to the India-market 2024 model, not other phones sold under the Z9 name.
iQOO Z9 5G specifications at a glance
| Feature | India-market iQOO Z9 5G |
|---|---|

| Software at launch | Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14 |

These specifications are for the India-market version listed by iQOO India. The manufacturer says water and dust resistance may decline with use and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty. Its battery-aging and playback figures are manufacturer laboratory claims; iQOO notes that actual results vary with the device, environment and usage.
What are the iQOO Z9’s main pros and cons?
Pros
- Dimensity 7200 performance that reviewers considered strong for the phone’s 2024 price tier.
- A bright, vivid 120Hz AMOLED display and stereo speakers suited to video and games.
- A 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), which reviewers praised for its daylight results.
- Battery endurance that lasted a day in the cited review periods.
Cons
- Plain plastic styling and a thicker bottom bezel than some buyers may prefer.
- Funtouch OS felt cluttered to reviewers and came with preloaded third-party apps.
- No ultrawide rear camera, limiting framing options.
- The selfie camera was described as average in The Indian Express review.
- The in-display fingerprint reader drew criticism for speed and accuracy in The Indian Express review.
How well does the iQOO Z9 perform for gaming?
For a phone positioned below the flagship tier in 2024, performance was a clear strength. The Indian Express reviewer found BGMI and COD: Mobile playable at medium graphics and reported COD: Mobile holding 60fps after 40 minutes. Digit recorded 7,30,223 in its AnTuTu v10 testing and reported smooth gameplay, including COD: Mobile at 90fps. These are results from separate 2024 reviews, not a guarantee that every game, setting or software version will deliver the same frame rate.
Display behavior is another consideration for gaming and everyday scrolling. Digit found that the screen stayed at 120Hz in the phone’s interface but did not scroll at 120Hz in the third-party apps it tested. That is a review-specific observation, not proof of how every app or later software version behaves.

How good is the display and audio?
The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel combines Full HD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Indian Express reviewer described it as bright and vivid, and both that review and Digit treated the screen as a notable strength. Stereo speakers add to its appeal for watching video or playing games without headphones. The trade-offs reported by The Indian Express were a thicker bottom bezel and a fingerprint reader under the display that was not especially fast or accurate.
How are the cameras, and does it have an ultrawide lens?
The rear setup has a 50MP Sony IMX882 main camera with OIS and a 2MP depth camera. There is no ultrawide rear camera, so you cannot switch to a dedicated wider field of view for landscapes or group shots.

The Indian Express reviewer found that the main camera captured detailed daylight photos, though with somewhat high contrast, and judged selfie performance average. Digit also rated the main camera positively and found it stronger than the predecessor’s. These are reviewer assessments, not a promise of identical results in different lighting or conditions.
