If your iPhone won’t charge on a wireless pad, first confirm the iPhone supports wireless charging, then check the pad’s power and the phone’s placement. A case or object, movement, temperature, or a connected USB cable can also explain why charging does not start or stops. Work through the checks below before assuming either device is broken.
Check compatibility and the charger setup
Apple says Qi wireless charging works with iPhone 8 or later. Check your exact iPhone model and the charger’s instructions: the pad should be Qi-certified, or it should be a compatible MagSafe charger. Apple notes that Qi-certified chargers can vary in functionality and performance. Apple’s wireless charging guidance also says many Qi-certified chargers can charge compatible iPhones at up to 7.5 watts with the latest iOS version; that is a conditional maximum, not a guarantee for every charger or setup.
Reconnect the pad to power and use the adapter supplied with it or the one its manufacturer recommends. Place the iPhone face up at the center or at the charger’s marked charging position, unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise. Apple says charging should begin a few seconds after placement; look for the charging icon to confirm it has started.

Remove anything that could block charging
Test the iPhone without its case. Thick, metal, and battery cases can interfere with wireless charging. Also remove anything between the phone and pad, including wallet cards, magnetic mounts, badges, passports, and key fobs. Besides interrupting charging, magnetic strips or RFID chips in some items may be damaged by the charging setup.

Keep the phone centered and let its temperature normalize
A phone that shifts out of position may stop charging. Set it down steadily and check whether notifications or vibration move it on the pad. If charging stops, reposition the phone and check for the charging icon again.
Charging may slow or pause if the iPhone is too warm or too cold. Move it away from the heat or cold and allow its temperature to return to normal; charging should resume automatically. A temperature-related pause alone does not show that the pad is faulty.

Check for a wired connection
If a USB cable is connected to the iPhone, Apple says the phone charges through that wired connection rather than wirelessly. Disconnect USB if you want to test the pad, then place the phone on the charger again.

If the basic checks do not help, restart the iPhone and check the pad’s power connections. Then compare its behavior with a known-good compatible wireless charger or with wired charging. Apple’s general charging guidance covers what to do when an iPhone is not charging or charges slowly. If charging still fails, contact Apple or an authorized service provider; the symptoms alone cannot identify a failed component.

When a different charger makes sense
Consider replacing the pad only if it is incompatible, damaged, or unreliable after checking power, placement, obstructions, temperature, and USB connection. Before choosing another Qi charger, verify that it supports your iPhone model, is Qi-certified, works with the available power adapter, and can keep the phone aligned. Check its manufacturer’s stated performance for that particular model rather than assuming all pads charge at the same rate.
A MagSafe charger is an optional alternative if your iPhone supports the relevant MagSafe behavior and magnetic alignment would help keep it in place. Apple says MagSafe can also charge other Qi-compatible iPhones, but power and charging times differ. It is not required for every iPhone, and buying a different charger will not fix a temperature, phone, or power-source problem. See Apple’s MagSafe charging guidance for compatibility details.
