To fix iPhone battery drain on iOS 27, first open Settings > Battery and identify what is using power. Then adjust the setting tied to that activity—such as display brightness, an app’s background refresh, repeated notifications, or weak cellular coverage. If you recently updated, wait a few days and check again before treating the change as persistent.
Find what is using your iPhone battery
- Open Settings > Battery. Review any suggestions or Insights above Daily Usage.
- Compare today’s use with the previous seven days. Tap View All Battery Usage, then select a day to inspect apps and system activity.
- Check whether the main use was on-screen or in the background, or whether the screen shows activity associated with notifications or low cellular coverage.
Apple’s Battery screen shows usage and activity durations, which can help distinguish time spent using an app from activity that continued in the background. Use that evidence to choose a change rather than disabling settings indiscriminately. Screen labels and details can vary slightly by iPhone model and software version. If the drain began after updating, give it time
After an iOS update, background work can temporarily affect battery life and thermal performance. Battery may show an “Ongoing iOS Update” insight. Apple advises waiting a few days after an update before checking whether battery life has decreased persistently. Revisit the Battery screen and compare usage after that interval.

Change the setting that matches the activity
If the display accounts for much of the use
Lower screen brightness and consider enabling Auto-Brightness or shortening the Auto-Lock period. Apple’s Battery suggestions may point to display-related adjustments. These changes are most relevant when screen use is a major contributor.

If an app shows substantial background activity
Reduce that app’s background fetching if it does not need to update when you are not using it. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh to turn the feature off, or choose Wi-Fi instead of Wi-Fi & Cellular Data. You can also reduce use of the app itself. A restriction may delay updates until you open the app, so keep background refresh enabled for apps whose timely updates matter to you.
If notifications repeatedly wake the iPhone
Adjust notifications for the app responsible. Fewer alerts can mean fewer screen wake-ups; choose the apps and alert types you actually need rather than silencing everything.

If Battery points to weak cellular coverage
Use Wi-Fi or move to an area with a stronger signal when possible. If coverage will be unavailable for a while, Airplane Mode can prevent the phone from continually seeking a cellular connection; you will not receive cellular calls or messages while it is on.
Choose a power mode with its trade-offs in mind

Adaptive Power availability depends on the iPhone generation. Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer eligible generations as supported. It is on by default for the iPhone 17 family and iPhone Air; on selected iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 16 models, it is supported but off by default. Check battery health if the usage pattern does not explain the drain
Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health on iPhone 15 and later. On iPhone 14 and earlier, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. If the display says Service, Apple says to consider battery replacement. Apple recommends battery service or recycling through Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider; follow the guidance for your exact iPhone model.
Battery condition is a different issue from an app or setting using power. If Battery identifies no unusual activity but the health screen indicates service, repeatedly changing app settings is unlikely to address the underlying battery wear. What iOS 27 battery advice can—and cannot—promise
Apple released iOS 27 beginning September 14, 2026. The available Apple guidance supports checking Battery usage, waiting several days after an update, and making targeted changes based on what the phone reports. It does not establish a general iOS 27 battery-drain defect or quantify how much any individual setting change will improve battery life. Apple’s release information includes battery-life testing with prerelease software, but that does not predict the gain a particular reader will get from changing a setting.
