The “iPhone 17 Air” was the leak-era name; Apple released the phone as iPhone Air. The May 2025 leak described a 5.5 mm, 6.6-inch iPhone, but Apple’s released specifications give it a 5.64 mm body and a 6.5-inch display. Compared with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, the iPhone Air is nominally thinner, while the Edge is nominally lighter and has a larger screen. The comparison below uses released-device figures, not the earlier iPhone rumor.
What the iPhone 17 Air design leak said—and what shipped
A May 13, 2025 report described the then-rumored iPhone 17 Air as 5.5 mm thick with a 6.6-inch display, alongside a 5.8 mm, 6.7-inch Galaxy S25 Edge. Those iPhone measurements were leak-era claims, not final specifications. Apple’s current product name is iPhone Air, and its published dimensions and screen size differ from the rumor. The original figures remain useful as historical design context, but not as a description of the phone Apple released. 9to5Mac’s May 2025 report

Apple’s figures come from its iPhone Air technical specifications. The Edge figures are attributed to Android Central’s comparison; they are secondary-source specifications, not Samsung figures verified here.
How thin and light do they feel in the numbers?
On the listed measurements, iPhone Air is 0.16 mm thinner, while Galaxy S25 Edge is 2 g lighter. These are small nominal differences, not a reliable verdict on which phone feels slimmer or easier to handle. The cited sources do not establish a shared method that accounts for camera structures, and thickness alone does not describe grip, balance, or how a case changes the feel.

Screen size and refresh rate
The Edge’s listed 6.7-inch screen is larger diagonally than iPhone Air’s 6.5-inch display. Apple specifies adaptive ProMotion refresh rates up to 120 Hz; Android Central lists a 120 Hz LTPO display for the Edge. These headline figures describe screen size and refresh capability, not overall display quality. They do not establish a controlled comparison of brightness, color, or viewing experience.
Different rear-camera configurations
Apple describes iPhone Air’s rear setup as a 48MP Fusion camera system and lists a 2x optical-quality option. Android Central lists a 200MP main camera and a separate 12MP ultrawide on the Galaxy S25 Edge. The Edge therefore has a dedicated ultrawide camera in this comparison, while the iPhone’s listed configuration emphasizes its Fusion system and 2x option. Megapixel counts alone cannot show which phone takes better photos; the available sources do not provide a controlled camera-quality comparison.

Battery claims and magnetic accessories
Battery figures here are not like-for-like. Apple’s “up to 27 hours” is its video-playback estimate for iPhone Air; the “up to 40 hours” figure applies when using Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery. Android Central reports a 3,900 mAh capacity for the Edge. A capacity number and Apple’s playback estimate measure different things, so they do not establish which phone lasts longer in comparable use.

Which phone makes more sense for you?
- Consider iPhone Air if you prefer Apple’s iOS ecosystem, want the thinner listed body, or value Apple’s stated MagSafe support and dedicated battery accessory.
- Consider Galaxy S25 Edge if you prefer Samsung’s Android ecosystem, want the larger listed display, or value having a dedicated ultrawide camera in the cited configuration.
The measurements describe released products, but they cannot settle personal preference or prove durability, camera superiority, or comparative battery life. Choose based on the features and software ecosystem you will actually use.
