There is not enough evidence here to say that either the iPhone 18 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra took better photos in Hawaii—or showed more accurate colors. The available official material describes camera hardware and features, not a Hawaii comparison with matched images. Here is what each phone is documented to offer, and what a credible head-to-head would need to establish.
What the published specifications say
Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with availability beginning September 18. Its announcement describes the iPhone 18 Pro camera system; it does not provide comparative test results. Apple’s announcement

Samsung’s configuration and product claims are on its US Galaxy S26 Ultra product page; the video modes are listed in its US Galaxy lineup comparison. These figures describe specifications and supported modes, not which phone produces the better image.
How the iPhone 18 Pro camera controls differ
Apple describes the 48MP Fusion main camera as the first iPhone camera with aperture control. It says the camera can adjust aperture automatically for lighting and depth of field, or let users choose from four manual aperture settings. Apple lists f/1.48 for the wider setting, f/1.8 for portraits, and f/4 for greater depth of field.

Apple also lists Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and a histogram. Its announcement describes updated Photographic Styles with texture and grain controls and updated Audio Mix. These controls may give a photographer more ways to shape a capture, but their existence does not establish more accurate color or better results than Samsung’s processing.
What Samsung says about its camera system
The S26 Ultra uses separate ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto cameras, with the specifications and zoom labels shown above. Samsung also promotes its ProVisual Engine, wider apertures, AI image processing, and improved low-light results. Those are Samsung’s product claims; the cited material does not independently verify their image-quality effects or compare them with the iPhone.

Why these facts cannot settle “true colors”
Megapixel counts, aperture values, zoom descriptions, and frame-rate limits are not direct measures of color accuracy. A camera comparison would need the phones to photograph the same scenes under comparable conditions, with the framing, exposure, lens or zoom choice, and processing method recorded. The phrase “true colors” also needs a defined standard—such as comparison against a color target under controlled lighting—rather than a subjective impression from a scenic location.
Hawaii alone is not a test protocol. Sun angle, cloud cover, shade, reflections, mixed lighting, and subject skin tones can all affect how a phone’s automatic processing renders a scene. Without matched original files and stated capture conditions, it is not possible to substantiate a winner or a claim that either phone rendered color more faithfully.

What a useful Hawaii camera test should include
A fair field comparison should publish original, unedited samples and identify the scene and conditions for each shot. At minimum, readers need:
- Both phones present for the same scene, with framing and timing matched as closely as practical.
- Lighting and weather, time of day, camera app and software versions, and the selected lens, zoom, and capture settings.
- Unedited original photos or clips, with any resizing or other changes disclosed.
- Separate comparisons of color and skin tones, exposure and highlight retention, low-light noise and detail, focus and depth of field, ultra-wide corner detail, telephoto detail at matched framing, and video stabilization and exposure transitions.
- A stated method for judging color and detail, rather than relying on the location or a single impression.
Until such evidence is available, the defensible conclusion is limited: Apple documents a variable-aperture 48MP main camera and manual camera controls for iPhone 18 Pro; Samsung documents a multi-camera S26 Ultra system with a 200MP wide camera and dedicated ultra-wide and telephoto cameras. Neither manufacturer’s published specifications prove which phone takes better pictures or renders more accurate colors.
