You can record time-lapse video in up to 4K Dolby Vision on iPhone 18 Pro. To set the default resolution, go to Settings > Camera > Record Time-Lapse. MacRumors also reports an Adaptive option in the Camera app that slows the time-lapse when motion is detected; Apple’s published specifications confirm 4K time-lapse but do not describe that feature.
What 4K time-lapse supports on iPhone 18 Pro
Apple lists stabilized time-lapse video up to 4K Dolby Vision for iPhone 18 Pro models, along with Night mode Time-lapse. Apple’s September 2026 launch announcement says users can record time-lapse videos in 4K and Dolby Vision HDR. These are stated device capabilities, not independent performance measurements. Set the default time-lapse resolution
- Open Settings.
- Tap Camera.
- Tap Record Time-Lapse and select the available resolution setting.
Apple Support documents this route for changing the default time-lapse resolution. Available choices may depend on the iOS version. See Apple’s instructions for changing video recording settings.
Choose 4K in the Camera app
- Open Camera and select Time-Lapse in the mode carousel.
- Use the resolution control above the viewfinder to switch between HD and 4K, as described by MacRumors.
- Frame the scene, keep the phone steady, and start recording.
The in-camera control description comes from MacRumors, not Apple’s support documentation. The exact control presentation can vary with iOS version, and this walkthrough does not establish that every interface version looks the same. MacRumors’ iPhone 18 Pro walkthrough describes the control.

What Adaptive mode does
MacRumors reports that Adaptive mode slows the time-lapse when the camera detects motion. To use it, open the Time-Lapse controls and select Adaptive, according to that walkthrough. Apple’s official materials cited here confirm 4K Dolby Vision time-lapse, but do not explain Adaptive mode or independently confirm its motion-responsive behavior. Treat the Adaptive description and control path as third-party reporting; the controls may look different across iOS versions.
