The iPhone 17 is a conventional smartphone; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra opens into a much larger screen. The Fold8 Ultra costs substantially more in the cited US starting-price listings, so the choice is whether its foldable design and expanded display suit your everyday use—not simply which phone has the longer specification list.

iPhone 17 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: the key difference

These phones serve different preferences. The iPhone 17 has a standard all-screen handset design. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a cover display for use while closed and a larger main display when opened. That makes the Fold8 Ultra the option to consider if you want a phone that can also provide a broader screen for reading, watching video, or multitasking.

The larger unfolded screen comes with a folding form factor. Whether that trade-off feels worthwhile depends on how often you would use the main display and how you prefer to handle a phone. The available specifications do not establish that one is objectively more portable than the other.

Price difference: US starting prices

In the cited US listings, the iPhone 17 starts at $829.99 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at $2,099.99, a $1,270 difference with the Fold8 Ultra higher. AT&T lists those retail starting prices in its US phone comparison. Samsung’s US product page separately shows the Fold8 Ultra from $2,099.99 before trade-in.

These are US retail starting-price references, not universal unlocked prices or guaranteed current street prices. The exact total depends on capacity, seller, taxes, and any current promotion. Samsung trade-in and carrier offers may reduce what an individual buyer pays, but an offer price is not the same as the listed starting price.

Decide whether the price premium matches your priorities

Using the cited US starting prices, the Fold8 Ultra costs $1,270 more than the iPhone 17. Consider that gap alongside how valuable the larger unfolded screen is to you. Promotions, trade-ins, storage selection, and purchase terms can change the amount you actually pay.
