Ionuț Radu missed Romania’s 2 October 2026 match against Poland because of recurring shoulder discomfort. Reports attributing the assessment to Celta Vigo said the issue was not limiting and that he had no significant injury; he was rested as a precaution. His availability for Romania’s next match against Sweden was still uncertain in reporting published on 3 October.
Why did Ionuț Radu miss Romania vs Poland?
Radu sat out Romania’s match against Poland on 2 October because of shoulder discomfort. EFE reported that Celta medical chief Juan José García Cota had spoken with Romania’s team doctor and that the advice was to be cautious. EFE described the discomfort as non-limiting and said Radu was expected to remain with Romania during the international window. EFE’s 2 October report characterized the decision as resting him “por precaución” (“as a precaution”); that is the report’s wording, not a verbatim published statement from Celta’s medical chief.

What is known about the shoulder problem?
La Voz de Galicia reported on 2 October that Celta had confirmed Radu had no significant injury and described the discomfort as recurring but non-limiting. The report said he would rest against Poland as a precaution and was expected back in Vigo around the middle of the following week. That timing was an expectation reported at the time, not a confirmed return date. La Voz de Galicia’s report used the phrases “no limitantes” (“not limiting”) and “ninguna lesión importante” (“no significant injury”).
Was Radu diagnosed with a serious tendon injury?
Romanian media initially reported that an MRI showed serious tendon injuries in Radu’s right shoulder. La Voz de Galicia later identified that as a claim originating in Romanian media and contrasted it with Celta’s reported assessment. The tendon-injury claim was not confirmed by Celta in the follow-up coverage, so it should not be treated as an established diagnosis. La Voz de Galicia’s 3 October follow-up also attributed the characterization “no es nada grave” (“it is nothing serious”) to Romania coach Gică Hagi.

Will Ionuț Radu play against Sweden?
His participation in Romania’s next match against Sweden remained uncertain in reports published on 3 October. La Voz de Galicia said the decision was still pending, and Cadena SER likewise reported that Radu had missed Poland as a precaution while Celta said he did not have a significant injury. Cadena SER’s 3 October report did not establish that he would be available for Sweden.

Celta’s official first-team news page did not show a Radu-specific medical bulletin in the results reviewed for this update. The description of his condition therefore comes from contemporaneous news reports attributing the assessment to the club, rather than a published club medical report. Celta’s first-team news page is the place to check for a later club update.
