Neither stock is an unconditional better buy based on the available evidence as of October 5, 2026. IonQ reported far faster second-quarter revenue growth and a much larger cash-and-investments balance at its latest disclosed year-end date. SoundHound reported 45% second-quarter growth, had no debt and $203 million in cash at June 30, 2026. Both companies are loss-making, operate in different markets and carry meaningful execution risks. A comparable current valuation for both stocks is not established here, so growth alone cannot settle which offers better value.
What do IonQ and SoundHound AI do?
IonQ develops quantum-computing systems and related platform capabilities. Its investment case depends on technical progress and whether deployments and platform development can become durable commercial revenue.
SoundHound sells voice and agentic AI software for enterprise use, including customer interactions in automotive, restaurants, phones, devices and other channels. Its case depends on customer expansion, commercialization of its products and execution as it broadens its business.

What the growth figures do—and do not—show
IonQ’s 287% year-over-year Q2 increase is much higher than SoundHound’s 45%. IonQ also reported first-half 2026 revenue of $144.7 million, compared with $28.3 million for the first half of 2025. Those figures indicate stronger reported growth over the periods shown, but they do not establish whether IonQ’s shares are attractively priced or whether its growth will persist.
SoundHound’s 2026 outlook is also a forecast, and its Q2 release described its financial data as preliminary pending the 10-Q. For both companies, compare subsequent reported results with management’s outlook rather than treating guidance as achieved revenue. SoundHound’s LivePerson acquisition was completed in September, after Q2; the announcement alone does not establish what contribution it will make to future revenue.

Which company has the stronger financial position?
IonQ: a large disclosed balance alongside substantial losses
IonQ reported $3.3 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investments at December 31, 2025, as well as a $510.4 million net loss for 2025. Its 2025 Form 10-K says it expects continuing losses and significant expenses. A large cash balance can provide funding for operations and development, but it does not show that the business has reached profitability or that its commercial plans will succeed.

SoundHound: no debt, but continued losses and cash needs matter
SoundHound reported $203 million in cash and cash equivalents and no debt at June 30, 2026. Its Q2 release reported a $42.8 million GAAP net loss and a $9.6 million adjusted EBITDA loss. Adjusted EBITDA is a non-GAAP measure; it should not be treated as interchangeable with the GAAP net loss.
Rank #3
SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K describes a history of net losses and negative operating cash flows, and identifies possible additional capital needs as a risk. The disclosed cash balances for the two companies are measured on different dates and use differently described categories, so they should not be read as a same-day liquidity ranking.
What could change each investment case?
IonQ: technical milestones must translate into commercial results
IonQ’s 2025 Form 10-K says its success ultimately relies on research and development breakthroughs in coming years and the coming decade. The filing cautions that milestones may take longer than expected or may not be achieved. Investors can track whether announced systems and deployments progress on schedule and turn into recognized revenue, while remembering that technical progress by itself is not proof of durable commercial demand.
Rank #4
SoundHound: commercialization and acquisition integration
SoundHound completed its acquisition of LivePerson on September 4, 2026. On September 24, it announced OASYS Edge, describing deployment across cloud, edge or hybrid environments. These developments may broaden product reach, but the announcements do not establish their future revenue or profitability contribution. Later filings and updates can clarify acquisition effects, integration progress and whether the company changes its 2026 guidance.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is IonQ or SoundHound cheaper in 2026?
The available valuation information is incomplete. StockAnalysis.com reported SoundHound’s October 2, 2026 closing price as $5.84, market capitalization as $2.59 billion and price-to-sales ratio as 12.76. These are third-party figures from a dated market-data snapshot, not company guidance or a durable valuation fact.
A comparable IonQ share price and valuation multiple for October 2026 are not established here. Without comparable, contemporaneous market values and clearly matched revenue periods, it is not possible to responsibly say which stock is cheaper. Nor does a higher reported growth rate alone show that a stock is a better value.
A useful comparison requires checking each company’s market capitalization or enterprise value against the same type of revenue measure—trailing or forward—and noting the date and calculation. Forward revenue comparisons also depend on company guidance, which can change and is not a guarantee.

- If your thesis centers on quantum-computing commercialization: focus on IonQ’s technical milestones, deployments, recognized revenue and ability to fund research and development while losses continue.
- If your thesis centers on enterprise voice and agentic AI: focus on SoundHound’s customer expansion, product commercialization, financial results after the LivePerson acquisition and the integration’s reported effects.
- If valuation is decisive: wait until you can compare current market values for both companies against a consistent revenue period and calculation. The available SoundHound snapshot alone cannot answer the relative-value question.
- If financial resilience is decisive: compare cash and operating cash use from filings with matching reporting dates. A cash balance, even a large one, is not a substitute for a path to profitability.
Verdict: no unconditional winner from these figures
IonQ leads on reported Q2 growth and has a larger disclosed cash-and-investments figure, though its cash date is December 31, 2025 and its 2025 loss was substantial. SoundHound reported solid growth, no debt and $203 million in cash at June 30, 2026, while also reporting a GAAP loss and facing customer, competition and integration risks. The stronger buy depends on which company’s execution risks and business model an investor prefers—and whether its valuation is reasonable. The available figures do not support a definitive relative-value call.
